Here is What GOP Leadership Should Be Saying

The headline below from The Hill kind of says it all about the quality and effectiveness of the Republican Congressional “leadership”. A few excerpts from The Hill’s report on the meeting of Mr. Obama with the leaders of both parties is included below. As always the GOP “leaders” emerge from such meetings “hopeful”, “encouraged”, dependably referring to it as “a good substantive discussion..”

Then the President goes out on the stump and tells “folks’ how “obstructive” and “do-nothing” the Republicans in Congress are. He repeatedly vows to act without Congress, to go around Congress , to take actions which violate traditions, laws, and arguably, the Constitution, etc.

I’ve taken the liberty to draft the kind of report on such meetings I believe conservative  Republicans, and a majority of the American electorate wish these two “leaders”(Boehner and McConnell) should deliver!   See below.   DLH

From The Hill
“Boehner describes Obama meeting with congressional leaders as constructive”

what our guys said:

“- The leaders discussed areas of common ground in job creation, including a package of House GOP small-business bills that the White House has embraced.                                      – “The Speaker was encouraged by what the president had to say about the JOBS Act,” a Boehner aide said.
– White House press secretary Jay Carney said Obama described the meeting as “constructive” and “cordial.”
– “The Speaker told the leaders that these ideas are good for American energy, as well as creating new American jobs, and he was encouraged by the president’s response,” Boehner’s office said in a formal readout of the meeting.
– McConnell largely echoed Boehner’s sentiment in a statement released by his office.”

what we would like them to say:

“Out of respect for the Office, our meeting with the president today was cordial and included a respectful exchange of ideas and concerns.”

“We wish, however, to make it clear, regardless of how his spokespersons or the participants from the other side of the aisle may characterize it, we do not consider this meeting to have been anything more than another minor phase of Mr. Obama’s election campaign.”

“In our meeting we reminded the president of our many concerns about his leadership in this time of national crisis.”

“In every campaign speech, however it may have been characterized by his media people, he has reiterated his commitment to act  without respect for the Congress or the wishes of the American people. Many of the actions his administration have taken in implementing his expressed strategy to “go around Congress” have been, in our view, extra-legal, in some cases, we believe illegal, in other cases, we believe, even unconstitutional.”

“The recess appointments this president made even though the Senate was not in recess is just one example of his defiance of traditional behavior expected of his office and his disrespect for the Congress and the elected representatives of his party’s opposition.”

“It is clear from his past actions and his current rhetoric, that the only prospect for “bi-partisanship’ or “compromise” this President wiil expect is the abject capitulation by his opposition.”

“We believe that it is our constitutional duty, even though we are in an election year and the President’s friends in the media will attempt to punish our party and its candidates, to stop this persistent, aggressive, and dangerous overreach by this president and this Administration. We will no longer permit Mr. Obama to simply carry out his ideological agenda and to act against the interests and laws and legislative branch’s constitutionally granted perogatives. We are committed to require this President to act in accordance with his Constitutional responsibility and with the active participation of  this Congress. Thank you.”
