You’ve read it in all the papers, right? Republicans are getting pummeled by all this talk about “contraception” . . . that that sly ole Obama has got us off message . . . that “we are walking right into a trap” . . . that “they are playing us like a fiddle,” that “we are getting killed with women.” And so it goes. Except that the polls do not bear it out for those hand-wringers who live and cry by the polls.
Disregard for now what the hand-wringers think principled constitutional Republicans should be saying as regards religious affiliated organizations being required to finance contraceptives and abortifacients against their religious beliefs (I guess, just shut and be a good little quisling).
Monday a New York Times/CBS poll (3-13-12) was released that has caused a lot of gnashing of teeth by the libs: ” . . . Mr. Obama’s approval rating dropped substantially in recent weeks, the poll found, with 41 percent of respondents expressing approval of the job he is doing and 47 percent saying they disapprove — a dangerous position for any incumbent seeking re-election.” The gnashing came after the hand-wringing no doubt caused by a Washington Post/ABC poll released about the same time which also showed Obama’s approval rating slipping. Two polls – two liberal newspapers, the Washington Post and the New York Times are saying Obama is in trouble.
John Hinderaker at Powerlineblog points out regarding the NYT poll: ” There are several interesting features of this poll. First, Obama’s approval is dropping even as voters’ perceptions of the economy are improving. Second, the Democrats’ effort to distract voters with the social issues doesn’t seem to have succeeded: In the head-to-head matchups, Mr. Obama also maintained much of the advantage he had built in the last year among important constituencies, including women, although he lost some support among women over the past month, even as the debate raged over birth control insurance coverage.”
Hand-wringing, gnashing of teeth, how about apoplexy for the Obama camp? Politico on 3-14-12 analyses a recent Bloomberg poll this way: Despite a significant outreach effort to female voters and Democratic accusations of a GOP ‘war on women,’ a new Bloomberg poll shows Obama losing ground among women from his 2008 vote share.
As regards the Republican candidate most identified with social issues, Rick Santorum, who according to the libs should have women fleeing his campaign, Frank Newport, PhD., Editor in Chief of Gallop in analyzing recent polls there reports: Santorum, Romney, Gender, and Religion The big tidal forces affecting Republican voters’ choice for their party’s nominee are affecting both men and women about equally. And, the closeness of the lines to one another shows us that Rick Santorum is not, as some have speculated, losing support disproportionately among women compared with his support among men . . . So, no matter what comments and policy positions Santorum has taken in recent weeks relating to women’s issues, nothing seems to have affected his relative position among women in any way that it hasn’t affected his relative position among men.”
There you have it Republican hand-wringers. Man up. RM
