The Rock Island Argus in yesterdays front page print edition hyped an AP story that July was the hottest U.S. month. To be sure the Argus did mention that the Q-C dodged heat records as only the sixth warmest on record (as if “records” are somehow accurately immemorial). Our objection is the total reliance on the AP headline story thereby implying it was unassailable and provided a non-selective and therfore unbiased perspective.
The matter is important because the hype is part of the continuing drumbeat for more and more environmental regulations that do not benefit mankind . . . they harm people’s prospects for prosperity and freedom.
This article, which came to us via yesterday’s PJ media, provides perspective. It includes an informative chart, quickly viewed by this link. According to the article
This year’s heat wave in North America is certainly severe, but the U.S. Midwest suffered a long and protracted heat wave during summer of 1980 as well. The summers of 1952-54 were similarly very hot in many regions of the mainland U.S. The graph below was presented on August 1, 2012, to the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee by Alabama State Climatologist Dr. John R. Christy. Note that almost all state extreme temperature records were set decades ago.
And so it goes. We are very much concerned about the political implications of these matters because we see overwrought environmentalism as the vehicle liberals and socialists will be relying on to secure oppressive big-government.
We have provided a new link section devoted to Energy & Climate matters. The array of links we think is a good start as a resource for readers when they hear the scare mongering regarding energy and climate matters coming from the leftist media.
We will also post commentaries on energy and environmental matters here at Veritas and have established a category at right for ease of retrieval of those articles. The Iowa Republican establishment’s sacred cows of ethanol and wind will not go unscathed. We will champion using America’s abundant cheep energy resources and proven innovations for the benefit of mankind.
