Scott County Supervisor Race — Vote Anderson and . . . get some answers

Two Republicans running, one standout.  Jesse Anderson hands down has worked to deserve Republican support for Scott County Supervisor.  He is informed and articulate, offering more than any of the other candidates. He has project management experience.  He has private business experience. He has a vision for what it takes to insure responsible and efficient county government and to make Scott County attractive for existing business to stay and new ones to come . . .  without picking winners and losers through preferential treatment.  In such matters he is consistent with the Republican platform.

Regrettably the other Republican running, Tom Sunderbruch,  diverged from clear county, district and state Republican platforms on the very serious matter of support for the so called Scott County  “sustainability plan” that is essentially an adoption of the United Nations Agenda 21 (for more information on Agenda 21 visit the links categorized on the right side  of this page).

The universality of considered grassroots Republican opposition to Agenda 21 in Iowa as reflected in the Party platforms was further recognized and emphasized by Governor Branstad when he issued a proclamation opposing it as an assault on property rights. We pray Tom Sunderbruch will rethink his vote, and advise the community accordingly.

The Scott County sustainability plan, passed on a three to two vote in 2011 with Republicans Carol Earnhardt and Bill Cusack opposing it (consistent with the Republican platforms).  It was supported by Sunderbruch and Democrat Jim Hancock,  both of whom are on the ballot this election, and Republican Larry Minard, not up this election.

Supervisor Sunderbruch, asking for Republican votes,  should at least advise us as to what are the differences on issues between he and good ol’ Jim Hancock the Democrat.  There probably are – so lets hear or see them. Republicans are owed that.  The Quad City Times endorsed Sunderbruch and Hancock praising them for not paying attention to “party agendas.”  We ask if that is an accurate  characterization and if so why Republicans who are asked for their votes by someone who runs as a Republican should be impressed with rejection of Republican agenda on an important part of our local government related agenda, an item confirmed by every current platform and an  Iowa Republican governor’s proclamation?  Democrats got what they wanted when Hancock voted for Agenda 21.  Why didn’t Republicans?

Furthermore is having an agenda a bad thing? Is the Republican agenda a bad thing?  Are you running as a Republican with Jesse Anderson and do you prefer him to Jim Hancock and why? Are their dangers to Democrat control of county government and what are they? How does it make a difference which political party person we support for the other position (don’t worry we are in no way advocating voting for any Democrat!) ?  These questions are intended to be helpful, to allow voters to understand the differences in furtherance of a Republican agenda, which we consider to be a good thing. We would be very pleased to promptly publish specific responses.

Why are answers to this important?  Because we are very tired of Democrats playing for keeps at all levels of government and Republicans not.

The Scott County sustainability plan is an unneeded, uncalled for,  grandiose bureaucratic Hydra imposing mega zoning, building and environmental goals for bureaucrats to play with and resultant arbitrary impediments, intrusions and costs to property owners developers and prospective businesses.  However well meaning implementers might be, it will have a life of its own.  It is a “plan” that provides an invitation and a vehicle for overwrought anti-business and industry types to thwart  property rights, job creation and economic development through endless law suits based on its troublesome, indeed evil  combination of both vague and  picayune but overwhelming government control.

The Scott County sustainability plan is an Agenda 21 atrocity.  Jesse Anderson read it and stood up to oppose it as a concerned citizen.  He deserves Republican support and the support of all who oppose overreaching and unsustainable county government in the future.

PS  As long as we are hoping for answers we would like to know from those responsible in  Scott County Republican leadership, why was Jesse Anderson not provided the opportunity to say a few words to the crowd at the most recent Romney event when Supervisor Sunderbruch was?  Time frame conflict . . . or perhaps no one knew he was there?                     R Mall

  1. Romentum says:

I voted for Jesse Anderson last week. I am seeing a lot more yard signs around town for him than Sunderbruch. Heck probably triple.

Can anybody tell me if Agenda 21 was brought up at his debate? Because this doesn’t exist outside of Ron Paul/Alex Jones Libertarian circles supposedly. Just curious to how this played out.
