Obama — No Sense or Shame

Imagine: It’s June 7, 1944. Secretary of War, Henry Stimson addresses a press
conference in the aftermath of reports that a massive invasion on the coast of
France by Allied Forces,  rumored to have been planned for yesterday, had been
cancelled.

Secretary Stimson issued the following statement: “Allied forces, stationed in
Great Britain were prepared to launch an invasion against Nazi forces on the
coast of Normandy yesterday, June 7.

“These forces were ordered to stand down and plans for any future invasion have
been postponed until further notice. To those members of the press who have
questioned this decision, I wish to make clear a policy of this Department and
of this administration. You don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing
what’s going on. We were not sure where or how German army forces were deployed
nor how aggressive they might be in pursuing a defensive posture. Thank you…no
questions at this time.”

Pure fantasy? Well, yes, but only because the entire world can be grateful that,
on at least this occasion, Leon Panetta and Barack Obama were not in the places
of Stimson and Franklin Roosevelt. DLH
