George Will, March, 2013 . . .
Anyway, tinkering with the party’s political process is no substitute for improving it’s political substance. No nominating process featuring an array of candidates as weak as the Republicans’ 2012 field would have produced a much better result. The party must begin whatever 2016 process it devises by fielding better candidates, which should not be so difficult.”
Karl Rove, on FOX News . . .
“Our object is to avoid having stupid candidates who can’t win general elections, who are undisciplined, can’t raise money, aren’t putting together the support necessary to win a general election campaign…”
What more needs to be said? The supremely erudite “Conservative Pundit” and “The Architect” have spoken!
In 2012,The GOP put up a field of “stupid”, “weak” candidates and unless the “Establishment” takes control of things, the party faces a bleak future.
Who can argue with that?
Gosh George, Karl! Like you, I just can’t understand why the Republican Party can’t field high quality candidates like the Democrats do, election after election.
For example, where’s our Al Gores and Joe Bidens, towering intellects both? Why can’t we get brilliant minds like Debbie Wasserman Schultz or Nancy Pelosi.
Where’s the Republican with the intellect and moral standing of an Alcee Hastings? (congressman from Florida since 1993, elected after being impeached for bribery and perjury and removed as a U.S. District judge . . . by a Democratic controlled House of Representatives!!)
And why can’t we recruit people of strong character like the late, much admired Gerry Studds? (reelected to five more congressional terms after being found to have engaged in sex acts with an underage male page? Studds was censured by the House in 1983 along with Rep. Dan Crane, a Republican. Crane had been found to have engaged in sex acts with an underage female page. Crane was turned out of office in the next election. Studds, as noted, was elected to 5 more terms. Obviously, Crane was “weak and stupid”, Studds was a profile in courage)
And where’s the GOP candidate for Vice President with the smooth eloquence of a Joe Biden?
Why can’t the GOP get smart, “likable”, articulate, morally superior candidates like the Democrats do? Where are our Party’s Sheila Jackson Lees and Maxine Waters (“170 million jobs will be lost due to sequestration”…out of current employment of 150 million). Speaking of Rep. Waters: she actually once sent a note to Fidel Castro apologizing for her vote on a congressional resolution to seek extradition of an escaped cop killer from Cuba where the fugitive received asylum. But asylum for innocent babies? Nope. Its dead babies without apology. Waters was one of only fifteen in the House to vote against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act,
It’s no wonder voters are turned off by Republicans. Where is the GOP candidate with the integrity, charisma and credibility who can go to the Senate floor and report, unchallenged, on anonymous calls, revealing unethical or even corrupt practices of the other Party’s standard bearers?
And don’t we have someone who can reduce the incredible complexities of the legislative process to terms that the average voter can understand…like “we must pass the bill to know what’s in it”?
The GOP’s only hope of finding such candidates as these, I am convinced, lies with and Karl and Reince, pending, of course, George’s approval.
Let’s go conservatives; don’t be weak and stupid like your preferred candidates; join with Karl and Reince… and God bless the GOP establishment! DLH
In an oh so painful way I am reminded that I have been a squishy apologist for Messers Will and Priebus. Roger Mall
