Does anybody remember the Sharyl Attkisson story?
At about the time the big news was the government secretly surveilling the Associated Press (AP) and especially FOX News reporter James Rosen, it was reported that Ms. Attkisson’s computers were mysteriously hacked by unknown perpetrators.
What made the story important, and chilling, was that Attkisson was the CBS reporter who had been investigating and reporting on major stories including “Fast and Furious” and Benghazi. Her stories were factually accurate and quite embarassing for the Obama administration (if they can be embarassed about anything,)
It was a story that had enormous potential to expose the lengths to which the Obama administration will go to protect itself from exposure of its totalitarian impulses and its illegal and unconstitutional actions.
Both private cyber investigating firms hired by Attkisson herself as well as by CBS were reported to be on the case to determine who the hacking culprits were. Attkisson went on FOX’s O’Reilly show and said that she was pretty sure she knew who it was but would await confirmation by experts.
Below is an excerpt from perhaps the only person following the case, a blogger named Erik Wemple who writes for the Washington Post. It was an updated report he filed on July 26, 2013.
In what’s becoming a routine, the Erik Wemple Blog checked today with CBS News and Attkisson about the status of her computer forensics. If Attkisson felt confident enough to say “I think I know” the identity of the guilty parties back in mid-June, surely she should have an update by now. CBS News indicated that there’s no update to be had, however. And Attkisson didn’t respond to an inquiry on the matter, which is also becoming a routine part of this exercise. To meet the standard of transparency that CBS News would certainly demand of any other newsmaker, it might consider either releasing the name of the company that performed the computer forensics or laying out its findings on the culprits. Or both.
It is the last report by anyone I can find. I wonder why. DLH
donnieork commenting on Wimples blog had this to say: “. . . CBS’s withholding information is ITSELF a story worth the public’s attention. This is not one of those “Nobody will care” stories. To accept its utter disappearance is unacceptable.” You would think at least the press would not say Sharyl who?! R Mall
