Then turn the tables for crying out loud.
From the delightful Stilton Jarlsberg.
When will responsible Republicans in DC stop parroting the Democrat talking points, echoing the liberal narrative? Of course most “government” does not “shutdown” in these circumstances. Nor is a suspension of some functions that uncommon. Nor is there typically any widespread trauma.
But it is not a matter of saying “what shutdown” to every audience . . . instead . . . we should accuse the accusers: “President Obama does not want to pay the troops, or keep (insert this or that year-to-year funded discretionary program) going unless he gets his way on the disastrous continuation of Obamacare.” You can say in the next breath: “We Republicans are standing to protect America from the government takeover of healthcare.”
Even the frequently heard comment from the beltway levelers that “no one” wants to shutdown government or the defensive, “we don’t want to shutdown government.” as if it is a matter of sharing blame, should not be uttered as such. Why share blame when clearly the Democrats are in accusatory mode (all the time) against Republicans? What kind of strong policy assertion / defense is that anyway for Republicans to even rhetorically share blame? R Mall
