Several people sent in platform suggestions for submission to the precinct caucuses this evening. The entire set is set forth below in no particular order. Some overlap but that can be dealt with by the platform committee. All are appreciated. You may print all or any of these for submission at your caucus.
Resolved, A fair and transparent process for delegate selection to the county, district and state conventions is important to Republican party unity. In presidential years, those counties in caucus states with an open and proportional systems of establishing the nominating committee, delegates and alternates, to the conventions have avoided or limited feelings of unfairness. Because Party involvement often begins in presidential years such a system in place helps insure loyalty and participation in subsequent year caucuses and conventions. Membership in the nominating committee tasked to determine delegates to conventions in subsequent years should be nominated to that roll from the floor in an open manner at the most timely central committee meeting, a special meeting being called if necessary. Rules to insure proportionality and fair play as regards delegates in presidential years and subsequent years shall be established.
Resolved, Any candidate who publicly misrepresents the record or position of the Republican Party, directly or by inference, shall be publicly corrected or, if purposeful, reprimanded by the County Chair.
Resolved, We believe that the United States should abandon “land for peace” pressure from any party or parties against Israel in regards to the Middle Eastern conflict.
Resolved, We insist that the Republican Party and its candidates stand for honesty and integrity in all political advertising. We expect political campaigns to be conducted in a positive and truthful manner.
Resolved, We call on our courts to interpret and apply the First Amendment as the Framers intended. The phrase, “the separation of church and state” as it is commonly used, contradicts the original intent and practice of the Framers of the Constitution. The First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a “state religion” and permits the exercise of religious freedom. Neither the courts nor government agencies should misuse or misunderstand the First Amendment so as to create a “so-called wall of separation” to the voluntary expression of religious belief.
Resolved, Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death regardless of gestational age, or dependency, and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Iowa and U.S. Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Resolved, We support the use of non-embryonic stem cells to advance modern medical research. We oppose somatic cell nuclear transfer (human cloning), embryonic stem cell research, human fetal-tissue research from induced abortions, and the commercial use or sale of fetal parts.
Resolved: Republican Party at the county, district, state and national levels should hold our politicians to our platform.
Resolved: The RNC should compile the national platform just like we do at the county, district, and state level. One campaign should not have over riding privileges.
Resolved: Government should not require the purchase, pay or subsidize premiums for insurance. The risk holder should be responsible for that cost. Government’s role in insurance is to protect the parties involved from fraud.
Resolved, Whereas millions of Americans have been outraged to learn that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been vacuuming up their phone, text and email records, and; Whereas the NSA’s phone-trawling program has not protected the country from a single terrorist attack in over a decade after its implementation under the Patriot Act, and; Whereas, the president’s “reform” plan putting all the data in private hands will make the situation even worse; The metadata collection of American citizens activities is an unreasonable search and seizure and should be ended as a violation of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.
Resolved, The state of Iowa and its subdivisions should be prohibited from providing material support, participation, services or assistance in any form to any federal agency…that searches, seizes, or intercepts an electronic communication of an American citizen without a warrant that particularly describes the person, place, and thing to be searched, seized, or intercepted.
Resolved, Common Core State Standards have less to do with raising standards than lowering standards. They are an inappropriate overreach to standardize and control the education of our children so they will conform to a preconceived ‘normal…’ Common Core Standards are bad for our children and are a gross overreach into the lives of Americans by the federal government.
Resolved, Iowa’s community colleges are crucial to both cultural and technological advancement in the state. We support that an overall budget neutral parity (no added taxes) for Iowa’s community colleges be established.
Resolved, The voting records and known positions of nominated candidates that are substantially opposed to core principles and positions of this platform shall be used by Republican leadership in decisions about the use of Party resources, and interpreted as negative factors.
Resolved, That candidates who receive Republican Party money be required to return to the Republican Party any financial help if the candidate bows out of the race or endorses a Democrat.
