The D’Souza Phoney Scandal

This is just a sample of what is coming in Obama’s next 3 years of rule. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, whose documentary 2016: Obama’s America took a critical look at President Barack Obama and was a surprise hit in 2012, will be arrested in New York on Friday for allegedly violating campaign-finance laws, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Federal authorities accuse D’Souza of donating more than is legal to the campaign of Wendy Long, who ran in 2012 for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton but lost to now-Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Long, though, is not mentioned in an indictment obtained by THR on Thursday.

Insiders say D’Souza has been friends with Long since they attended Dartmouth College together in the early 1980s. According to the indictment, D’Souza donated $20,000 to Long’s campaign by aggregating the money from various people and falsely reporting the source of the funds.

So how have allegations of infractions by others been treated?  Rick Moran writing at the American Thinker reminds us of the yawns and indifference by liberal commentators afforded to revelations about the extensive fund raising Obama did overseas through internet channels.  Moran refers to the following Reuter’s report:

According to a recent report issued by the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), people residing in countries around the globe . . . may be flooding the Obama campaign with foreign contributions in violation of federal election law.

The Washington Post, at the end of its article about the D’Douza matter offered the following:

Straw-donor cases have been brought against prominnent individuals from time to time. For example, in 2011, a prominent Los Angeles attorney, Pierce O’Donnell, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of making $20,000 in donations to the presidential campaign of former Sen. John Edwards and reimbursing straw donors.

So apparently in that case, involving a Democrat, the original charge was a misdemeanor. Hmmm.

D’Souza’s support was for a candidate who lost with less than 28% of the vote. His arrest should not be lost on critics of Obama regardless of whether they are major players or not (take heed, Mr. Veritas). Keep in mind how Lavrentiy Berea…er, I mean, Eric Holder, upheld election infractions in the case of the New Black Panthers.

This stuff goes beyond banana republic tactics and, as this goes relatively unnoticed, underreported, or dismissed, it will accelerate.  Again, America, be afraid, very afraid.
