OK most of veritaspac readers are immune to the hype from the climate alarmists . . . that any “record” is a sign of man made global warming. But you are nevertheless subjected to the subtle presumptions and not so subtle sensationalism that surrounds any new “record. Today for example this area experienced record cold at -22F which beat the old record of -15F extending back to 1885. To be sure that is damn cold.
But give your frightened friends some perspective. This area has experienced colder yet later still in the month. Thursday February 13th our low (Moline) is forecast to be +18F. The record low for that day in history was -25F in 1905! So a record low for a particular day is just not all that significant if days later in the calender there was an historically colder record.
