At this point in the campaign, Bruce Braley should be on the defensive, big time. Establishment Republicans are always quick to point to those “poor quality” GOP candidates that those TEA Party crazies like to support. Somehow, Karl Rove and associates never seem to find any Democrat candidates of poor quality. Yet, right here in Iowa we have a candidate who has a record only a Debbie Wasserman Schultz (speaking of repulsive politicians) could love.
Here we have a candidate who can arguably claim to have provided perhaps the only comic relief of the Obama era. Of all the wasteful, ineffective, misrepresented fiascos of the “shovel ready spending spree known as the “Stimulus”, Bruce Braley produced the laugher of the decade…”Cash for Clunkers”. Liberal pamphlets, like the QC Times thought it was terrific…at the time. Since, however, it has been exposed as what I’d suggest should be properly labeled “Braley’s Folly”.
Then there’s Bruce’s vigorous promotion of the unaffordable “Affordable Care Act”. That’s Obamacare for those rubes who believed Congressman Braley when he assured us voters in his townhall meeting that he would not sign on to any healthcare bill without having read it fully beforehand. Uh, yeah…”unless Miss Nancy tells me to”.
And then there’s the Braley Joe Biden imitation, and his artful putdown of Iowa farmers. His infamous expressed “concern” that if he were not elected, the nation could have a, gasp, FARMER chairing the Senate judiciary committee, and not a wise LAWYER. That one brought the house down at the lawyers’ convention.
It is about at this point that Establishment Republicans would be sadly lamenting how the “fringe” nut cases of their party had put up another woefully inept candidate. Karl Rove and his PAC and the Establishment would be withdrawing financial support from a candidate like Braley and denouncing his candidacy even more vigorously than the Democrats.
But not the Dems! They back their “Nancy Boy” to the fullest. So many special interests groups own a piece of Braley…trial lawyers, unions of any kind, pro-abortion enthusiasts, etc…that from one campaign appearance to the next, Bruce can’t remember if he’s conducting his own “war on farmers” or criticizing his opponent for her war on women. Oh, it’s all so confusing!
Not to worry though. If elected, Ms. Pelosi will be happy to hand her leash on Braley over to Harry Reid…with the admonition that “this is a guy who can take orders; just make sure to keep the Senate gym well-stocked with towels.” DLH
