I wonder why it took so long to discover this. I suppose it’s because our military first had to address the lack of, a) gays, b) female commanders, c) females in combat roles, then, d) the rampant sex abuse, e) insufficient representation of transgenders, f) the need for greater representation of Muslims (so that we could adequately relate to the anguish of “folks” like Maj. Hasan), g) the need for diversity training, understanding Islam, sexual harassment, etc, etc
No doubt the inordinate amount of time the military used to spend training in combat skills was troubling to military sociologists.
So all the statue lacked was approval.
It wouldn’t have been “controversial” if they’d gotten approval to display it first.
