Recall when Barack Obama, as Salon.com reported, “zings Romney for calling Russia America’s biggest geopolitical threat” with that snappy retort, “The 80’s called, they want their foreign policy back”?
That was back when climate change, or is it “climate dysfunction”?, global warming?, whatever, was the biggest geopolitical threat and war was sooo 20th century.
That was also back when Our Dear Leader assured us that America would never, under his superb leadership, get involved in a Middle East conflict. His astute Sec. of Defense, the estimable Chuck Hagel would sell off all military boots so they’d never again be on the ground.
Yes, we would have “peace in our time.” That was just two years ago, October, 2012. bin Laden was dead and General Motors had yet to have its massive recall of lethal automobiles.
Then, this morning, Americans awoke to the news that the US had bombed ISIS targets in Syria and even the Obama administration is acknowledging that we are at war.(One hopes that our military has been issued really, really thick socks because it is likely that at least “feet will be on the ground” in the Middle East very soon.)
Barrack Obama – Neocon ! – Powerline
A guest commenter at John Hinderaker’s Powerline blog has a wonderfully insightful post. After drinking of our erudition, if you read nothing else today read this devastating expose of the hypocrisy of Obama and other prominent Democrats opposing the Bush doctrine but eager to support a preventative war against ISIS. The excerpts below are from the concluding remarks but much richness is contained in its point by point fulness.
At a minimum, both Obama and the congressmen who opposed the Iraq War Resolution but support the attacks on ISIL should be required to explain why the ISIL situation isn’t identical to Iraq, 2002. Why ISIL does not reflect the Bush Doctrine…why this one isn’t a “dumb” war. And how, even though ISIL did not attack us on 9/11 and had nothing, nothing to do with it…how there is no “imminent threat” to us…how genocide doesn’t justify intervention…how this time it’s so totally different. Because not Bush? Because Obama is a lightworker or something…kind of a god, ya know? . . .
Obama’s ISIL speech is a direct repudiation of his opposition to the IWR in 2002. It is an implicit endorsement of the Bush Doctrine. Indeed, it is a direct repudiation of the basic rationale for his presidency from the beginning!
Yet there is little acknowledgement, let alone sense of shame, from the Dems, the left or the double-talking MSM. The only conclusion their cynicism, duplicity, and double-talking sophistry permits is that they are transparently partisan opportunists.
Surely Elizabeth Warren will stand athwart the military’s denigration of Native Americans.
From the NY Times: “American fighter jets and armed Predator and Reaper drones, flying alongside warplanes from several Arab allies, struck a broad array of targets in territory controlled by the militants, known as the Islamic State. American defense officials said the targets included weapons supplies, depots, barracks and buildings the militants use for command and control. Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from United States Navy ships in the region.”
“Tomahawk” cruise missiles!!!????
Are you kidding?! Does this warlike administration think that Native Americans will stand for this??!!
Why, this would be like calling “Wife beater Bombs”!
This continuing insult must not stand!
Mourning Joe
The highlight of this morning’s clown show that MSNBC calls “Morning Joe” was arch Republican (by MSNBC standards) Joe “Bozo” Scarborough in high dudgeon over Congress’s abdication of its responsibilities. Specifically, though, Joe was angry with the Republican side of Congress. His gripe seemed to be that they are allowing Barack Obama to attack ISIS targets in Syria without requiring him to get Congressional approval.
He seemed to be untroubled with Harry Reid, the diminutive cherub who rules the Senate and blocks any action on anything that might require Democrats to cast a vote some leftist faction or other of the party’s base might find objectionable.
Then, Joe and the earnest Eugene Robinson came down on members of the military leadership who have been somewhat critical of our President’s non-strategy strategy to do something, or maybe not, about the Islamist threat to our national security.
Messrs. Scarborough and Robinson were much distressed that everyone would not get behind our president in time of war.
You remember. Like he and the liberals and Democrats did for George Bush in the Iraq war!
