Acknowledging that Obama had made numerous statements to various advocate groups demanding “comprehensive immigration policy” (read “amnesty”) that he “did not have the power to make such sweeping changes without Congress”, White House aides were apparently ready with what they undoubtedly thought was a great response.
Here’s how a McClatchy news story reported on President Obama’s reversal of himself regarding his authority to make sweeping changes to immigration law without Congress: “…aides said he (Obama, since making those statements) had since learned he does have the authority, and that the refusal of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to take up a bipartisan overhaul passed by the Senate left him no choice but to act unilaterally”.
Now I’m just one of those “stupid” voters the Obamaites like to mislead and lie to but I marvel at the arrogance of these people and, at the same time question what the Supreme Court of the United States believes its mission and responsibilities to this nation are.
In the case of Mr. Obama, he “evolves” and learns new stuff about his job so fast that all “us folks” can be sure of is that his position on anything is only what he says it is at any given time. Tomorrow, or 10 minutes from now, if a different position suits his whim or is to his personal advantage, he’ll let us know.
The Supreme Court seems to be oblivious to any adverse effect on the citizens of this country that this bewildering changing and “evolving” by the nation’s Chief Executive might have. Its position seems to be that “the folks” have no “standing” to even ask for a ruling on the Constitutionality of his action, regardless how illogical and dangerously erratic the President’s behavior.
As to the “aides'” justification for Obama’s action, based on his newfound understanding of his job, I believe it is a shocking admission by a President of the United States that it is his understanding that, if a “co-equal” branch of our government does not agree with what he wants to do, he has “no choice but to act unilaterally”.
To me, that is the most succinct definition of dictatorship one can assert: Congress exists only for the purpose of doing what the president wants! DLH
