“Steps” that do not challenge . . .

. . . one wonders how Republicans would ever return to Constitutional governance in principle

Jonah Goldberg, in my view, one of the brightest and most committed conservative political pundits, made a startling statement on a Fox News show Sunday. In discussing Obama’s action on illegal immigration, bypassing Congress in clear violation of the Constitution in several aspects, Goldberg was congratulatory toward the GOP congressional caucus for apparently not planning to do much of anything to block it.

Something to the effect that Obama had clearly taken such action to provoke Republicans into “acting crazy.”  Presumably, to Goldberg,”acting crazy” would be, for example, action limiting the continuing resolution on funding only through the period until the new Congress is seated. ..the dreaded “defunding/ government shutdown” strategy. He also mentioned, to effectively make defunding look equally silly, other measures like not inviting Obama to give his State of the Union message to Congress.

I was somewhat shocked and very disappointed in Goldberg’s position. He expressed fear that in doing much of anything to adversely affect Obama’s final 2 years’ agenda, Republicans would really jeopardize their chances in the 2016 presidential election!

I think Jonah better reassess this concern. It suggests that there is no action so egregious, so lawless, so unconstitutional that Obama could take in the next two years that would justify the GOP majorities in Congress “going crazy” and doing something about it.

That is absurd!

It is also a recipe for the “total transformation” of America into the perfect Alinsky-Cloward-Piven model of Communism!

Paul Sperry of the Hoover Institution, writing in the New York Post, How Obama Blatantly Disregards the Law, provides an article that Jonah should read and consider. It outlines some of the unconstitutional actions Obama has already taken that takes the nation pretty far down the road to totalitarian dictatorship.  Elsewhere on this website, an Alan Caruba piece calls attention to another very serious abuse of power by Obama and his EPA.

The Goldberg “strategy” is to “just do ‘small things’, like pieces of legislation which might curb some parts of Obama’s disastrous actions, and otherwise, lay low. If, indeed, that’s the GOP answer then not only have the voters who turned out in great numbers to give the GOP the muscle to stop the nation’s destruction been grievously betrayed, but the America that has been the freedom beacon of the world for 200 years will be no more.
