Conservatives and Libertarians . . . also . . . dump Boehner cause grows

• Libertarian and Conservative largely a self-classification —  much overlap on issues  –  positions vary within self-classification
• Don’t lump us in with Dick Cheney or G W Bush on all matters, don’t lump us in with Ron Paul or the Koch brothers on all matters either.
• Dump Boehner cause grows – overlapping a growing amount of Republicans

This is a rather wearying discussion of the differences between libertarians and “conservatives” titled What’s Conservatism Without Liberty?  It’s authored by Jack Hunter, a former Rand Paul operative. I’ve put “conservatives” in quotes because I don’t think this writer is quite fairly characterizing the positions of conservatives nor do some of his examples of what is authentically conservative apply. Some of those referred to as “conservatives” deserve more of a spectrum analysis. But he makes a number of points that are well taken.

There is one point I’ve wanted to make since the whole matter of NSA “spying”, Patriot Act, detainee torture and treatment matters have come up over the years, especially since 9/11.

I had reservations about some aspects of the Patriot Act; I certainly have deep concerns about the NSA activities; some parts of the detainee debate concern me but they are mostly minor issues.

I consider myself a conservative (that’s a poorly kept secret). I am against big government, abuse of authority, “torture” for the sake of torture.

My concerns about these, however, were not a matter of fundamental opposition. When it comes to the Patriot Act and the NSA, I was not gravely concerned that these authorities would be greatly abused under GWB. Because I was quite sure that the “free press” would not allow a Bush or any Republican president to go rogue with those powers. My concern was precisely what has happened. I just worried about the wrong character. I was concerned about, “what would a Hillary Clinton do with such powers…or for that matter any liberal who shares the “free press’s” ideology”.

Even then, my concern was how far liberalism would take such powers. I really did not imagine a Communist, wannabe/wouldbe tyrant/dictator becoming president and the almost unimaginable uses he/she would go to to “transform” this nation into a brutal communist dictatorship.

House Conservatives Have the Power and Should Depose Speaker John Boehner

The vote on whether Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)N/A will be Speaker will occur in January, and 30 conservative House members can deny him re-election. It will be an actual public vote—not a behind-the-scenes, paper ballot vote. Although many would have you believe otherwise, Boehner has not yet been elected Speaker for the new term. House Republicans elected him as their nominee for Speaker in November, but the full House of Representatives needs to vote on his nomination in January.

House conservatives must summon the courage to oppose Boehner’s nomination on the floor in January. It is a moral imperative. You cannot consistently complain about Leadership’s many failures—and the treachery involved with a Speaker fresh off a successful wave election conspiring with President Obama to fund amnesty and enjoy a celebratory phone call in the aftermath—and then vote for him to continue in this role.

Other conservative organizations and personages have been part of the call.  Grass Tops USA promotes a “blast fax” program to Republican Congressman in pursuit of the call (caution – not the cheapest route to go).  An organization called The Tea Party Leadership Fund PAC is promoting a petition to draft Trey Gowdy to replace Boehner.  It is a serious effort but some groups may be more interested in mining conservative names.  We are not concerned in that we are probably on most conservative data bases already.  To contact your Republican congressman you can always use the link provided in our  Legislator Links page, always available on our page bar above.
