Where is the love for “Gitmo” terrorists?

Seriously? Maybe just repatriate them (ironic term)

Seriously? Maybe just repatriate them (ironic term)

Today’s WSJ reports on the arrest of a former GITMO DETAINEE “on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a local prosecutor” in Uganda. The prosecutor was the lead in the trial of suspected Al Qaeda-affiliated militants.

The story merited the Journal’s coverage of about 6 column inches on page A12.

Maybe it’s just me and the reason I’m not managing editor of the WSJ, but this story seemed just a tad more significant than the attention given.

Of course, the story is all over the internet by various media sources and apparently Megyn Kelly noted it. But, again, the MSM certainly doesn’t want to make much about it because it could somehow undermine the wisdom of OUR DEAR LEADER’S Gitmo policy.

Maybe we’ll see more on this as the day goes on. Incidentally, I read the other day Uruguay says it won’t take more Guantanamo inmates. Why are they being so uncharitable?  And what is it with the “U” countries. Some time ago the UK said no más    But maybe US will pick up the slack.  Or will it? We just don’t know who to believe.

2009 — Lawmakers claim administration opening door to Gitmo transfer with Illinois prison buy

2012 — Administration vows no Gitmo detainees in Thomson   (just prior to election)

2014 —   Are Obama and Durbin planning to bring Gitmo detainees to Thomson?

The Daily Caller’s Patrick Howley thinks so.

Thomson Prison, which houses 1,600 cells, installed a new warden Tuesday. President Obama gave the federal government control of Thomson prison in 2009 through the Department of Justice. Obama planned to move Guantanamo refugees into the prison until Republicans blocked funding for detainee transfers.

Since then, Obama has unilaterally released a number of Guantanamo prisoners including five senior Taliban leaders. Democrats would still like to see detainees moved there, and have repeatedly used the talking point that a new transferred-terrorist unit managed by the Defense Department would stimulate the local economy in Carroll County.

th-4Illinois Review spoke with Congressman Adam Kinzinger about the plans for Thomson in June. He said the President would have to bypass Congress to bring Gitmo detainees to Illinois.

“In my mind, there should always be concern [about the Obama Administration moving Gitmo detainees into Thomson] because as the President said back in 2009, they made it clear that’s what they wanted to do,” Kinzinger said. “We put it in the law that they could not do that, but we’ve seen the Administration act as if the law doesn’t matter – as in the Bergdahl release.”

Kinzinger said he supports opening the Thomson prison to be used for domestic criminals because federal prisons are 53% overcrowded, and there is a need for Thomson and for jobs it would provide in the area.
