Apparently, Karl Rove thinks the average Republican voter isn’t as smart as even a first Grader.
Last Thursday Mr. Rove penned a Wall Street Journal column in which he assured all those voters who turned out last November to give the GOP a smashing election victory and return control of both Houses of Congress to Republicans, that “Congress Is Finally Back On Track”!
Yes. He really did!
Rove’s column reminded us that the allegedly “popular” quiz show, “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” returns to FOX this summer. The show, according to FOX “tests adults’ lack of knowledge, as revealed by how much they’ve forgotten since grammar school days.”
Mr. Rove’s piece apparently attempts to test how much adult voters have forgotten since November 2014.
The so-called “Architect’ of the successful G. W. Bush campaigns of 2000 and 2004 tells readers that the Reid-Pelosi “dysfunctional Congress finally appears to be working again as the Founders intended.”
As proof, the “Architect” cites such “accomplishments as congressional approval of the “doc fix”, extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and, take a deep breath, “passage of budget resolutions by the House and Senate”. Wow!!!
Rove also happily cites “even more evidence”: “Senate Democrats agreed to move forward on a human trafficking bill without undoing a 39-year-old ban on federal funding of abortion. In response”, Karl proudly reported, “Republicans cleared the way for a vote…on President Obama’s nominee for attorney general, Loretta Lynch”.
Let’s stop here. If these are examples of the “generous” return voters received from the Republican party for going to the polls to express their abject disgust for the soviet style of governance Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Senate and Pelosi House have inflicted on this nation for over six years, maybe the “architect” himself isn’t as smart as a 5th grader.
To detail how just these “accomplishments” Rove cites are actually the opposite of progress toward stopping the damaging behavior of this administration, we are limited by time and space, and it should not be necessary for any one who has paid attention.
The “doc fix’ simply rids congress of the inconvenience of having to ignore an ill-conceived law every year as it has since it was passed. There was agreement by the two parties on this issue, not because of this new “atmosphere” of cooperation and collegiality. Neither has wanted the law since its inception and never observed it anyway. An irony is, of course, that like many other tricks and misrepresentations the administration used to hide the true cost of Obamacare, it had factored in the annual “savings” from enforcing the law that had never before been enforced and now was rescinded!
As to that other “great success”, the “human trafficking bill” which preserved the “39 year ban on federal funding for abortions”, and allowing a vote on the Lynch confirmation? This rivals Obama’s ludicrous claim of Yemen representing a success story for his national security and foreign policies. Oh how the GOP establishment chuckled at that one!
Guess what! Despite their courageous upholding of that bedrock principle of no federal funds for abortion in the Trafficking bill, abortions will be funded by manipulations of various funding mechanisms to accomplish exactly what the democrats sought.
And the Lynch confirmation? If there was one thing, by golly, GOP candidates, across the board, promised, it was that Obama’s illegal, unconstitutional executive action granting defacto amnesty to untold millions of illegal immigrants, “shall not stand”!
All the GOP candidates , led by the two real heroes Mr. Rove cites in his column as responsible for restoring “regular order” to their respective chambers, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, assured voters that they “had a plan”!
Why, it was simple. Voters, having preserved the Republicans their “power of the purse” of the House and bounced the vile Harry Reid from his dictatorial rule of the Senate, would use the coming year’s federal budget to force President Obama to his knees.
Some, of course, recalled the GOP Establishment’s well-worn tendency to talk tough before elections and capitulate beginning on the Wednesday after election day and thus, had their doubts that Mitch and John were up to it. But Reince and Karl and Mitch and John were resolute. This time will be different. They even had a backup plan in the “unlikely” event that they might be rendered helpless in that darned lame duck session. And sure enough they were!
They just could not overcome the dirty tricks of those outgoing dastardly Democrats.
But not to worry. John and Mitch were up to the task. While they seemed to give in to Reid and Obama, allowing passage of a budget for the entire coming fiscal year which would fund all of the Obama agenda, these two wily “leaders” had a backup plan. They had cleverly EXCEPTED the portion of funding for Homeland Security which would be necessary to pay for Obama’s executive action on illegal immigration!
Then, when they gained control in the new Congress, we were assured, they would force President Obama to rescind his illegal executive action, having no money to pay for it. High Fives all around!
Well, once again, they found themselves at the mercy of cruel fates. Were they to actually do that, they learned, to their utter surprise, Republicans would be blamed by media for “shutting down the government”. And having experienced the terrible backlash from the time that goofy Republican Senator caused that very thing…which arguably was so terrible that the GOP could only muster a wave election win the very next time actual voters could express their view…their best laid plans were foiled.
But not to despair, faithful voters. Mitch and John had a “plan C”. If Obama thought he could push these guys around, he had another ‘think’ coming. Word somehow leaked that, now firmly in control, the GOP would block any of the President’s appointments requiring confirmation by the Senate. Yessir, Obama would have to capitulate…there would be no mercy from Mitch!
And so, “folks”, last week we saw the Republican-controlled Senate, led by the fearless Mitch McConnell restore “regular order” to that august body, confirm an attorney general nominee who had announced to the Judiciary Committee that she firmly endorsed the President’s executive action on illegal immigration…the very issue McConnell campaigned to have rescinded! And he was one of the “Perfidious Ten (Republicans)” who voted for Loretta Lynch.
And Mr. Rove concludes his column noting, “…Congress…is at least (now) functioning and (is) thus more likely to produce real answers to the country’s challenges. After the Reid and Pelosi years, that ain’t nothin'”
“Real answers”…note he didn’t say “good” answers. Maybe that is “nothin'”.
To add real emphasis to Karl Rove’s expressed, we believe wildly misplaced, praise of this Congress’s leadership, here is a piece appearing the same day as Rove’s, that conservatives and all voters who have put their confidence in the Republican establishment and its ilk, like Rove, Priebus, McConnell, Boehner, et al, should read and ask themselves,”Am I smarter than a Karl Rove 5th Grader?”
It’s says it all. From Breitbart News:
“Senate Democrats still control the U.S. Senate, election results last November aside, an analysis of all the votes taken since Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took over as Majority Leader shows.
“In fact, with two minor exceptions, every single vote that has passed the U.S. Senate since the beginning of this Congress in January has passed with at least—usually more than—93 percent of support from Democrats.”
” Seven nominations— George C. Hanks, Jr ., to be a U.S. district Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Alfred H. Bennett to be a U.S. district Judge for the Southern District of Texas, William P. Doyle to be a Federal Maritime Commissioner, Carlos A. Monje, Jr. , to be Assistant Transportation Secretary, Christopher A. Hart to be National Transportation Safety Board chairman, Daniel Henry Marti to be Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator and Michael P. Botticelli to be Director of National Drug Control Policy—passed the Senate unanimously. That means all senators who voted on the nominations voted in favor, with no GOP opposition.”
DLH
big deal . he thinks the average Dem. voter is at the level of a 4th grader.
That is just too easy so I am not going to comment.
Rove, isn’t he the slob who made up a story about McCain Fathering a “Black girl” so as to get W. a victory in South Carolina? 🙂 why would U care what a slob like that thinks?
You should have gleaned that we have no great respect for Karl Rove’s political advice. But we are not going to lie about him. Your claim is just another of your unsupported assertions.
