House Passes Pro-Life Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks

24weekunbornbabyThe House of Representatives today approved a pro-life bill that bans abortions from after 20-weeks of pregnancy up to the day of birth.

The vote for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (Ed note: H.R.36) broke down on mostly partisan lines with Republicans supporting the ban on late-term abortions and Democrats opposing it. The House approved the bill on a 242-184 vote with four Democrats (Reps. Cuellar, Langevin, Lipinski, and Peterson) voting for the bill and five Republicans voting against it (Reps. Dent, Dold, Hanna, Frelinghuysen) or voting present (Hice). (See very end of this article for how members voted).

Should the Senate approve the bill, President Barack Obama has issued a veto threat. But pro-life groups hope to use the measure as an election tool in 2016 in an attempt to wrest control of the White House and approve a pro-life president who will sign it into law. . . .

The setting for the vote on H.R. 36 made opposition even more indefensible

By Dave Andrusko

babyincubatorNot that it could persuade the unpersuable, but a confluence of a number of events made the setting of The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act even more uncomfortable for opponents. Here are just a few.

First, May 13 was the second anniversary of the murder convictions of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. We wrote about it extensively (nrlc.cc/1K8tSmh, nrlc.cc/1K8tVhZ , and nrlc.cc/1Hg2i2Q), but there is an additional component I didn’t mention.

Gosnell is serving three life sentences without any chance of parole for aborting three huge unborn babies alive and then murdering them by severing their spinal cords. Both the Philadelphia Grand Jury and the prosecution were convinced there were many, many more babies executed in like manner but Gosnell studiously avoided keeping records.

Gosnell84But he was also convicted of 21 counts of aborting babies past the legal limit in Pennsylvania –24 weeks. Both the babies he aborted past the legal limit and those he murdered were pain-capable.

Second, just last week a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine examining the survival rates of nearly 5,000 very premature babies. There are many takeaways, particularly the survival rate (23%) of even babies born at 22 weeks when they are “actively” treated.  . . .

I would ban all surgical abortions after about 9 weeks.

big problem: a real person of the opposite sex told me sometimes a woman does not *know* she’s pregnant until after 20 weeks.

I would allow post-20 for incest/rape/med/ condition cases, but no surgical removal.

  2. phil silverman says:

clarification: I would only allow an abortion for incest/rape/medical condition, and no surgical abortions for anyone. recreational abortion is an abomination.

if the above criteria discovers the pregnancy after 20 weeks, non surgical termination to be discussed by medical professionals who sign off on the abortion.

And the 20week unborn children killed by salt poisoning, or needled with Digoxin to give them an excruciating fatal heart attack thank you, as do the ones dismembered for the crime of the father.
