McCain the Untouchable

Says it for me: from Newsmachete

Donald Trump made a stupid comment about John McCain, blah blah blah. That doesn´t interest me. What does interest me is that every time we want to say something critical of John McCain, we always have to preface it with “John McCain, who was a war hero” (which he was). But that´s only half his record. In peacetime he has done such incredible economic, social, and national security damage to this country that I think he should be addressed as “John McCain, wartime hero and peacetime coward.”

I say “amen” to that,  and to the article’s litany of McCain’s abandonment of conservatism.

Those Republican candidates rushing to call for Donald Trump to get out of the race are not only embarrassingly self-serving, but do a serious disservice to the overwhelming majority of Americans (in my opinion) who have longed for somebody, anybody, in either political party to raise the issues of greatest concern to them.

And, like him and his brash attitude and checkered political history or not, Trump is doing just that ! The huge, growing and disastrous reality of illegal immigration is among the most urgent!

And, as it is obvious, and has been the case almost all along, the one and a half political parties (I don’t think you can consider the GOP a “whole” party) have wanted open borders, amnesty for all illegal aliens, and, ultimately their votes and cheap labor.

If they can now get Trump out of the race they can all relax and “talk sensibly” about how we can get all these illegals citizenship and their votes.

How bad  was Donald Trump’s alleged insult to John McCain (whose presidential  campaign Trump reportedly raised or gave a million dollars to)?  Judge from the transcript and the video and most will see the grand umbrage taken is ridiculous in its own way.

Here is honest and accurate reporting by  former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson. Save it. You are not likely to see much of it until all viable and worthy GOP presidential candidates are run out of town…leaving, of course, only Jeb Bush to betray the party’s base only to lose anyway:

Fact Check: The Washington Post on Donald Trump and John McCain

When a panelist characterized McCain as a “war hero,” the Post is accurate in reporting that Trump initially said McCain is “not a war hero.” But then, Trump immediately modified his statement saying– four times– that McCain is a war hero:

“He is a war hero.”

“He’s a war hero because he was captured.”

“He’s a war hero, because he was captured.”

“I believe, perhaps, he’s a war hero. But right now, he’s said some very bad things about a lot of people.”

As far as McCain’s war hero status we are in no position to dispute it nor would we attempt to, but it is responsible to report that McCain is not held in high regard by a significant portion of the veteran community for his performance on veteran’s legislation including VA hospital scandals. Champions of finding the truth about service members missing in action during the Korean and Vietnam hold McCain in contempt for being essentially responsible for the Senate killing  a House vote of 401 -0 to release government documents pertaining to MIA’s. That is recounted in this youtube clip which includes testimony from former Senator Bob Smith and Congressman Bob Dornan.

One Response to McCain the Untouchable

  1. Gus says:

Let’s not forget what a dreadful candidate for president McCain was. He ran harder against his Party’s own down ticket than he did against Obama. Recall when McCain traveled to the Quad Cities area and refused to have the Republican congressional candidate on stage with him. Supposedly, McCain’s campaign staff rejected any joint appearance because of some alleged “anti-gay” remark years earlier. Recall also how his campaign called for the resignation of a GOP county chairman because, in remarks introducing McCain, he mentioned Obama’s full name, including “Hussein”!
