Newt Gingrich and Clifford May call out Kerry and Obama for what they are
Newt Gingrich: John Kerry and lies about Iran
Secretary of State John Kerry entered politics 45 years ago on a platform of opportunistic anti-Americanism and false peace with totalitarianism. Then as now mistaking dishonor for political heroism, Mr. Kerry lied to the American people to justify his preferred policy of weakness and surrender. And as he proved this week, he’s still at it, with Mr. Kerry the “peacemaker” in the leading role. . . .
Mr. Kerry claimed that Iran’s breakout time (the period required to have a full nuclear weapon) will “never go to zero.” But as Fox News Sunday pointed out, President Obama himself said in April that by the later years of the agreement, Iran’s breakout times “would have shrunk almost down to zero.” Mr. Kerry, apparently, is relying on some technicality to evade a fact even the president openly admits.
Mr. Kerry repeatedly claimed that “there is no country anywhere on this planet that has anywhere, anytime [inspections]. There is no such standard within arms control inspections,” as he put it on Fox News. “This is a term that, honestly, I never heard in the four years that we were negotiating,” he said on CBS. “It was not on the table.”
This is a shameless lie. “Anytime, anywhere” access has been a widely discussed component of the Iran negotiations. It is simply impossible to believe that Mr. Kerry has never heard the term. And in April of this year, a senior aide to the president on national security matters told Jake Tapper on CNN that “under this deal, you will have anywhere, anytime 24/7 access as it relates to the nuclear facilities that Iran has.” The secretary of energy (with whom Mr. Kerry made several appearances on Sunday) told Bloomberg in April that “we expect to have anywhere, anytime access.” . . .
Clifford May: Scuttle Obama’s Iran deal, or surrender
The future of U.S. sovereignty rests with Congress now . . .
The fundamental flaws in President Obama’s deal with Iran have become well known. Among them: Iran’s rulers will have the power to delay or even prevent inspections of suspected nuclear weapons facilities; Iran’s rulers will receive tens of billions of dollars that they can spend as they please, including on terrorist groups; Iran’s rulers will have several paths to nuclear weapons — they have promised only not to rush. In the past, such promises have hardly been ironclad.
In other words, this agreement — formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPOA) — will both empower and enrich a regime that calls America its enemy, a regime responsible for more than 1,000 American military deaths since Sept. 11, 2001 (and hundreds more before that), a regime that proclaims “Death to America” as its enduring and irrevocable mission. . . .
What’s more, it would be a grave mistake to set the precedent that the U.N. Security Council — including such permanent members as Russia and China and such non-permanent members as Venezuela and Chad — constitute a global government with the power to make significant decisions for the American people while the elected representatives of the American people are marginalized. If that isn’t technically a surrender of American sovereignty, it certainly opens that door — and, I’m afraid, removes the remaining hinges.
As Mr. Mead put it, the president “is really requiring Congress to accept a permanent and significant diminution in its power for the sake of an Iran deal that few members view with enthusiasm. The precedent he is setting changes the Constitution, essentially abrogating the treaty power of Congress any time a president can get a Security Council resolution to incorporate the terms of an executive agreement.” . . .
If anyone is looking to this congress to save this nation from the quickening pace toward totalitarianism at home, complete irrelevance abroad, and certain global catastrophe, take another look at who that “august” body’s leaders are: Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner…need any more be said?
Oh that Corker! Did you hear the one about the Senator who sponsored the abdication of Congress’ Constitutional role in ratifying treaties?
In one of the Republican leadership’s favorite pastimes, a “hearing”, Senator Bob Corker (R,TN) really gave John Kerry, Sec of State … and world’s shrewdest negotiator… the old ‘whatfor’ for his mishandling of the Iran nuclear negotiations: “I believe you’ve been fleeced”, Corker said in his most manly tone.
That should have brought the down the house. Of course Kerry got “fleeced”, but Senator Corker and his leadership colleagues are being sheared to the bone day after day by the arguably illegal, unquestionably unconstitutional actions of Obama! But all they need is another big election win like 2012 and they’ll be really tough.
Zarif went on to push back against claims by Kerry that the sanctions relief would be implemented in a phased fashion—and only after Iran verifies that it is not conducting any work on the nuclear weapons front. Zarif, echoing previous comments, said the United States has promised an immediate termination of sanctions.
