Racism endemic in Democrat Party
Readers may remember our little dig directed at Democrats over their fit to have Confederate flags removed from public display.
We are curious about the political left, given their deep sensitivities about the slavery implications they contend are inextricable in the display of the Confederate flag. How many will attend the various Democrat Party sponsored Jefferson-Jackson Day events? Those dinners in the fall are trademark Democrat fundraising and showcase events in Iowa.
Well it seems when veritaspac speaks — Democrats snap to. OK maybe not but we do note that Democrat Party apparats in several states are now disowning Jefferson and Jackson — Connecticut Missouri — no more dinners named after them. That’s OK with us as both historic figures are too good for modern day Democrats anyway.
But which historical lights from their party are they going to go to to avoid implications of racism? Missouri Dems are naming theirs after Harry Truman. Hmmmm. As Patrick Howley at the Daily Caller points out:
” . . . But the Missouri party’s decision to instead name the dinner for Harry Truman might not have been the most racially savvy choice.
“I think one man is just as good as another so long as he’s honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman,” Truman wrote as a 27-year old in 1911. “Uncle Will says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman.”
“[Uncle Will] does hate Chinese and Japs,” Truman wrote. “So do I. It is race prejudice, I guess. But I am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America.”
Though Truman nearly lost the 1948 Democratic nomination when Southern Democrats walked out of the convention due to Truman’s mildly progressive racial policies at the time, his personal beliefs were pretty firmly racist.
As a U.S. senator, Truman told his daughter in a letter that the White House waitstaff was comprised of “an army of coons.”
Nice.
Frankly, we think there are so very few figures with any stature connected to their party that they can authentically claim as non racist . . . either from the 19th century, or the twentieth and not now. Look at the underside of the Democrat Party, and it is racist to its core, ranging from overt to condescension, with devastating effects on black people.
