“Failure theater” continues
GOPe thinks we are that stupid
Let’s see. Senator Mumbles admonished us dimwit Republican base voters that back when the GOP only controlled one half of one-third of America’s governing apparatus, they were pretty much helpless to stop the Obama rush to totalitarianism. This was not long after we had given the GOP the “power of the purse” by helping to elect a GOP majority House.
So, Senator Mumbles advised us that the “solution” to this awfulness was to elect a Republican majority in the Senate, making him Majority Leader. That would do it, we were assured.
As it happens, one cannot help but be reminded of the Charlie Brown comic strip…and Charlie’s agonizing ordeal at the hands of the merciless and deceptive Lucy:
“On the comics pages for years, one sign of fall loomed above all others. I’m speaking, of course, of the annual Saga of the Swipe: Lucy, Charlie Brown, and that infernal football.
“This sacred autumnal drama, repeated nearly every September or October for over 50 years, has become our collectively-acknowledged paradigm for the uneasy tension between trust and betrayal, hope and despair. To a kid, of course, it was the moment of failure that mattered—not the metaphor. No single act better encapsulated a child’s feeling of powerlessness, and I felt Charlie Brown’s frustration and disappointment with every bone in my body. As the years went by, Lucy’s seemingly compulsive need to torment poor Charlie began to gnaw at me. I started to wonder—what drove Lucy to unrepentantly torture Charlie Brown in this fashion, year after year?” (excerpted from: Culture Box at Slate.com)
Thus, where’s the shock that, having once again put our faith in Senator Mumbles to actually do the things he promised to do when grubbing for votes, he repudiated them, beginning almost the day after the election? He and Speaker, Sir Cry-a-Lot, Boehner, immediately, during the lame duck session yet(!), fully funded the Obama agenda with a budget bill for the first year of their leadership of both Houses. That budget, of course provided the necessary funds for implementation of Obama’s illegal immigration executive action.
Last week, “Dimbulb” Congressman Upton informed us that the XL Pipeline issue would not be included in forthcoming budget talks , “because it would be a ‘poison pill'”, meaning President Obama wouldn’t like it and would do his government shutdown snit.
And now, Senator Mumbles, appearing almost gleeful, vows that he will get a budget bill through that will make the White House very happy.
Meanwhile, perhaps the most disturbed member of congress, “Cyclops” Harry Reid is no doubt chuckling as he notes, “couldn’t do better (or worse) myself”.
And so, like the excerpt above, we wonder, what drives Senator Mumbles’ and Speaker Cry-a-Lot’s seemingly compulsive need to torment their base who put them in power?
More important why does Charlie Brown and Conservatives tolerate it, every fall, or election after election?
Only if McConnell and Boehner agree before the 2016 election that if the GOP retains control of either or both Houses, they will step down from leadership, will many bother going to the polls.
I don’t wish to once again have the football swiped by the GOP establishment!
Just how stupid does the GOPe think we are?
As stupid as Obama voters.
Obama’s “argument” that the Iran deal now said to be a done deal (thanks especially to Senators Corkin and McConnell as much as Obama) was the choice between “war” or his (preposterous) negotiated agreement — was of course a false dichotomy. In similar attempt to bamboozle the public, McConnell claims that any attempt by Republicans in Congress not to include funding for Planned Parenthood would be them “shutting down government”, Once again insufferably adopting the Democrat narrative and accusation.
As sundance writing at Conservative Tree House explains:
Mitch McConnell Gives Fiscal Conservatives The BIG MIDDLE FINGER
– Announces Plans To “Work With” Obama On Budget….
For now, we get to listen to the pontificating predictions of the turtle-faced Senator in chief.
[…] “We just don’t have the votes to get the outcome that we’d like,” McConnell said. “I would remind all of your viewers: The way you make a law in this country, the Congress has to pass it and the president has to sign it. The president has made it very clear he’s not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood, so that’s another issue that awaits a new president hopefully with a different point of view about Planned Parenthood.” (link) . . .
I know, I know…… I know what you’re thinking. . . I
Something along the lines of: Dear Jackass, the House can pass a budget, and the Senate can pass the same budget using a simple majority -under the budgetary tool of “reconciliation”- which doesn’t need a single Democrat to vote for it. Duh, or something similar.
That puts the budget, which -annoyingly as it might be to admit- might just contain conservative principles, directly on the desk of Heir Stompy to decide what to do next.
Yeah, we know, that might mean a VETO – OhMyGosh, heaven forbid – and then a budget fight over those pesky principles and stuff. You know, “VETO”, that thing Obama doesn’t have to deal with since you never give him any legislation he doesn’t agree with. Yeah, that thing.
Nah, what, with all that bother and stuff. ‘Tis far better to just announce your spineless surrender-monkey intents before you even get back to DC. Yeah, that’s a strategy, that’s the ticket….
Remind us why we needed to give you a majority in both the House and Senate again?
The entire “powerlessness” situation that McConnell complains about with crocodile tears is McConnell’s own doing! All of the budget and spending process validations of Obama’s executive orders and various other unconstitutional actions are the result of McConnell’s pursuit of “regular order” as regards the filibuster, something outside the Constitution. His actions and stubbornness essentially involve handing the keys to Congress, and the ability to effectively challenge Obama, to Reid’s Democrats allowing them to easily protect their own anti-Constitutional, anti-American handiwork.
