One guy’s reaction to “THE PLEDGE”

pledge1My reaction to Mr. Trump’s signing of the House Un-American Activities Committee, er, I mean, the Republican National Committee’s “loyalty pledge” is one of slight disappointment. It may give some the impression of caving to some sort of threat or intimidation, something the Donald has built an entire campaign around his being immune from.

No doubt, intimidation was the intent of the RNC in pressing the pledge. They are themselves intimidated by Trump and all other efforts to date have failed to derail his improbably highly successful anti-establishment campaign.
Despite my reservations about the wisdom of Trump’s signing the pledge, I think it’s too early to know if it will cost him any momentum.

He is still hitting the critical themes that concern many Americans:JEB’s underwhelming and quite inexplicable campaign to woo non-English-speaking Hispanics; the horrific Iran deal and the embarrassing abdication of their Constitutional obligations by the GOP congressional leadership: the “unfettered” illegal immigrant invasion; the enormously costly “climate change” crony capitalism fiasco, based entirely on a hoax, and on and on.

More importantly, in a battle of wits, native guile and shrewdness with Trump, Reince and the GOP establishment folks bring a popgun to an AK 47 fight.

The Donald would be arguably correct if he were to interpret the almost certain continuing and increasingly bitter  attacks by the GOPe to bring him down as “grievous disrespect” deserving of his righteous repudiation of the “loyalty pledge”.

And I suggest there will be many, many conservatives and even “moderates” who will also see it that way.

Given 3 to 6 months more of the dangerous fecklessness of the congressional leadership and the obvious willing support of major parts of the Obama agenda by certain GOPe donors, the Trump campaign could well achieve new heights.

More important than anything Trump does over the coming weeks, however, is how desperate and scared the JEB Bush camp and the GOP donor class get!

One Response to One guy’s reaction to “THE PLEDGE”

I think this also indicates that Trump is serious about winning the nomination. He needed to be on the ballot in all the states and some state parties would have kept him off the ballot and some states have “sore loser laws”. Having announced for the R he maybe would run afoul of them (however possibly unconstitutional).
