In an article in The Federalist titled The Not-Trump-Not-Bush Republican Primary Robert Tracinski writes:
“A lot of the support for Donald Trump is fueled by outrage against the Republican establishment. But those who ask us to understand this anger—as if it were a totally new phenomenon that none of us had ever noticed before—are ignoring the fact that Trump divides the right just as much as the establishment does. There is a whole cohort of people—Jonah Goldberg is one, and so am I—who will walk away from the Republican Party and split off from the right in the unlikely case that it decides to embrace Trump. We won’t be part of a movement that’s based on ignorant, knee-jerk emotional prejudice, nor will we tolerate a campaign based on adulation of a “great leader.”
This is a piece, intended to be so noteworthy and so incisive and thoughtful, because the writer is a “correct” Republican intellectual, that us ignorant savages must listen to it. He ‘s not “establishment” he proclaims. He is also not one of those really crazy right-wing fringe nut cases, he wants you to know.
In the article Tracinski pretends to provide “objective” analysis of each GOP candidate, without endorsing any. Like Jonah Goldberg, every highly intelligent, thinking man’s Republican, Tracinski seems to inform us that the really best candidate for the GOP nomination has not emerged…and won’t, because he (and Jonah) are happy to be just highly intelligent, thinking man pundits. So neither will be running but as the quote above emphasizes, the one person you must not be foolish, emotionally crippled, and/or ignorant enough to support is Donald Trump!
Just one question, Mr. Tracinski: Didn’t you and Jonah take the “loyalty pledge”? and if not why should loyal Republicans listen to you? The answer will of course apply to any GOPE Trump critic.
