Irresolute Republicans

  • Congress votes to fund Obamanation at current level
  • Continuing resolution devoid of any funding restrictions on executive amnesty, Planned Parenthood, Iran capitulation
  • Squeel of current Republican leadership “We are hellllplesss against those bad ol’ Democrats” They got our purse, what can we possibly do???!!!
  • How “members of interest” voted

From yesterday’s  Conservative Review  (note: if Conservative review is not on your bookmarked list, it should be)

Republicans gained control of both chambers of Congress last fall with the premise of stopping Obama by using their Constitutional authority of the power of the purse to defund key parts of Obama’s agenda.  . . .

This vote was on final passage of a spending bill that fully funds Obama’s priorities, including abortion, until December 11, 2015. Between now and December 11th, Planned Parenthood is estimated to commit 70,000 abortions. Preceding this vote, Republicans engaged in a series of show votes to give the appearance of fighting against public funding of abortion, however the votes detailed in this alert were the critical votes in the House and Senate to cut off those federal funds.

Lastly, from a spending and budget perspective, this spending bill maintains the excessive burn rate of taxpayer dollars and lacks any spending reforms.

From Conservative Review today: (bold, our emphasis)

Congress Ignores Constitution, Votes To Fund Planned Parenthood

Earlier yesterday, the Senate voted 78-20 for the Continuing Resolution that will fund every aspect of government, even abortion, through December 11.  Every Democrat and an overwhelming majority of Republicans supported it.  Only 20 Republicans voted no.

The House took up the CR yesterday afternoon, and once again, Boehner passed the bill with full Democrat support and only a minority of the majority party.  Just 91 Republicans supported the CR, while 151 Republicans voted no.

As an empty gesture and a show vote, the House first passed an “enrollment correction,” to attach a defunding rider of Planned Parenthood to the bill, but only if the Senate chooses to do so.  They will obviously ignore it and bring the dirty CR – containing full funding for Planned Parenthood – to the president’s desk, but provide House members who supported the CR with the pretense of fighting the butchery.

There is no greater shutdown than closing off the last avenue for redressing severe grievances with the government –the power of the purse.

Following votes, members of the Washington establishment are congratulating themselves for avoiding a government shutdown.  While it is true that they prevented the paid leave of 18% of the federal workforce, they have permanently enshrined the ultimate shutdown into our system of governance and the Constitution.

By passing this short-term Continuing Resolution, Republicans have made it clear they will never use the power of the purse to check the executive branch or fight the Democrats in Congress.  It was bad enough to fund Obamacare and executive amnesty; now Republicans have shown they are willing to fund a private organization under criminal investigation for barbaric actions with your taxpayer dollars just because of a threat of a phony shutdown.

There is no greater shutdown than closing off the last avenue for redressing severe grievances with the government –the power of the purse.

This budget bill caps off the most lawless fiscal year of this equally lawless administration.  The message to Obama is crystal clear.  There is nothing he can do that will prompt the GOP to fight for their values.  Republicans have given Obama a green light in his final year to take his lawlessness to a new level.

This CR was a seminal vote and Conservative Review included it in the Liberty Score.

Today’s vote should also disqualify the entire slate of candidates who are running for the new leadership positions.  Reps. McCarthy and Scalise must take responsibility for this act.  It’s time for Republicans to look for completely new leadership.

Note: See our post yesterday itemizing some of the current ineptitude regarding.

One Response to Irresolute Republicans

  1. Gus says:

Now wait a minute! It’s not like the GOP did nothing about Planned Parenthood. They held a hearing…what more do us voters want them to do? The US Chamber of Commerce could very easily give their $100 million gift to defeat conservatives in the coming primaries to Democrats.
Now let’s see, a 3rd party movement would only insure that the left will get everything it wants, right? And that would be so much different than how it is now?
