Response from passers-by encouraging
Just a few quick pics of participants at the early afternoon October 4th Life Chain. The annual event has been held in the Quad Cities in recent years along Middle Road in Bettendorf as it is proximate to the Planned Parenthood abortuary.* Previous years saw the Life Chain along Brady Street in Davenport.
The two-hour event begins with a prayer service at the Women’s Choice center which is located across the street from Planned Parenthood on Happy Joe Drive. Attendees then walk the short distance to Middle Road for a public demonstration of right to life commitment. Attendance varies year to year and has averaged in the 150 to 180 range. It was down this year to the 100 range. The event is dependent on volunteer time to get the word out and “victimized” by assumptions about people remembering (I forgot one year). This year a big factor was that there was a protest (much larger) at the same site a few weeks ago in response to the expose about Planned Parenthood clinics in several states selling aborted baby parts.
The demonstration last week had a very positive reception from passersby, the best in my experience (nearly all of them). One sign invited people to honk in support but it was not necessary as the message of the demonstration was clear. The number of positives waves and horn honks (discounting the few single-finger waves) was greater than in the past. Particularly gratifying was the increased positive reaction from younger drivers and passengers.
We attribute the increased positive reaction to social media. The truth about abortion is getting out with the photographic evidence easily promulgated on the Internet and because social media technology presents avenues not previously reachable at such little cost. Peer to peer influence is the key component of this. The visuals of nascent human life in the womb are everywhere. Sonogram sharing led the way. The pictures of the horrors of abortion along with more and more testimony opposing it is easily shared. Prior to this, liberal media was key to the cover-up of abortion and Planned Parenthood’s primary involvement. Liberal media still participates in the cover-up but with new avenues of information it is not as effective.
Along with the positive response to the Life Chain that we observed, polling on the issue reflects advancements in getting out the truth. According to a recent CNN poll 58% of American people believe most abortions should be illegal.
*the Bettendorf Planned Parenthood reportedly stopped doing surgical abortions on-site many months ago but continues to push chemical abortions and is part of the largest abortion syndicate in the world.
