First Ward – no endorsement – uncontested Democrat incumbent
Second Ward – vote for Bill Edmond (R)
Edmond is a conscientious alderman. He has been a champ on a number of things. As with Ray Ambrose who we also endorse, we might have taken a different view on a thing or too had we studied them, but maybe not. They are not on the same side on everything but we see them as bulwarks on some important matters.
Third Ward – no endorsement – both Democrats
Fourth ward – vote for incumbent Ray Ambrose (R)
We note here that in the three-way primary, Ambrose achieved almost 54% of the vote. His ward includes precincts affected by the stadium development – especially D43 and D44. He sustained Gluba’s veto of the St Ambrose plan. Combined he did especially well in those precincts. This might be a clearer indication of where the most affected voters were in the primary on that issue. Ambrose is a conscientious alderman.
Fifth ward – no endorsement – both Democrats
Sixth ward – uncontested – incumbent Justin is a Republican
Seventh ward – no endorsement uncontested Democrat
Eighth ward – vote for Kerri Tompkins as the Republican
With uncontested Democrats running we encourage write-ins
Alderman-at-large (can vote for only two) all are registered Republicans
Kyle Gripp
Phil Yerrington
Barny Barnhill
Jason Gordon
We think incumbent Gordon has a conflict of interest as an official with the Quad City Chamber of Commerce and with regret will not be supporting him o that basis. As an incumbent the best bet is that he will be retained but maybe not.
Based on his hard work and information from others about his instincts we will support Gripp this time around. That leaves for us a choice between Barnhill and Yerrington. We find both supportable for various and different reasons. We give the nod to Yerrington this go-around who has achieved impressive results on very low budget city-wide campaigns.
