But did you know, everybody wants to play poker with Mitch and Paul?

A “generous” offer from the white house…

…and a cautionary note on how the GOPe plays its cards

White House offers to trade immigration action for legislation

From Nicole Duran writing at the Washington Examiner

“A White House spokesman said Tuesday that President Obama would agree to take back his controversial executive actions on immigration if Congress agreed to pass comprehensive immigration reform.”

All right, knock off the snickers. This “offer” would be laughable only if there was, indeed, an effective opposition political party in majority control of congress. By now I think we all know that is not the case. When one considers this offer and realizes that Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan are the majority weenies, you can’t help but be reminded of the oft appearing GEICO TV commercial: “Everybody knows that. But did you know that playing poker with Kenny Rogers is no fun”?

Well, we all know that “playing poker” is definitely not the strong suit of the GOP congressional leadership:

The game is high stakes, 7 card stud, nothing wild. Six cards have been dealt.

The other four players, who’ve helped build a rich pot have dropped out. The GOP hand shows two Aces, a four and a six up. Hole cards are the other two Aces.

Obama’s hand shows  the King and Jack of Spades, a 7 and a trey of two other suits, up. His hole cards unknown, of course, to the GOP.

Obama speaks: “Look, it seems that you have the other 2 aces in the hole. But you realize that I may well have two cards in the hole to help fill out a straight flush. I’m willing to make a deal. Instead of you risking that I may catch the other high spade to complete my winning hand, I suggest that, instead of dealing the 7th card, we both fold our hands and split the pot.

What do you say, Mitch, Paul?”

The GOP, after a moment of thoughtful consideration: “sounds like a win-win to us. Agreed.”
