Abortion related murders in Colorado Springs and Philadelphia

  • America will hear all about Robert Lewis Dear, accused of killing three in an abortion clinic, and his victims. It will be far more than they heard about Kermitt Gosnell, convicted of killing three in an abortion clinic, and his victims.

Accused, Dear

Friday’s added homicides of two adults at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood office and a police officer responding to the shootings  made front page news across the country. Nine others were wounded during the shooting which included five police officers.  All of the wounded are expected to recover.  In spite of no information at the time as to the motivations of the killer, mainstream media dispatches were quick to associate the shootings with ant-abortion sentiment.  This from the New York Times (NYT):

The shooting came at a time when Planned Parenthood has been criticized because of surreptitious videos made by anti-abortion groups of officials discussing using fetal organs for research. It transformed a shopping area near the clinic into chaos as snow fell and gunshots rang through the parking lot. Black-clad tactical officers stood guard with guns in hand, ambulances lined up and dozens of shoppers and employees were ordered to stay away from windows and lock their businesses’ doors.

The encounter could be heard in transfixing detail on the police scanner, with the authorities describing how they had driven a BearCat armored vehicle into the Planned Parenthood building, smashing through two sets of doors into the lobby and rescuing some of those inside.

“We’re exchanging gunfire,” one officer said on the radio. “We are trying to keep him pinned down.”

“Put gunfire through the walls,” came a reply. “Whatever, we got to stop this guy.”

Since abortion became legal nationally, with the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade in 1973, many abortion clinics and staff members across the country have been subjected to harassment including death and bomb threats, and hundreds of acts of violence including arson, bombings and assaults and eight murders, according to figures compiled by the Naral Pro-Choice America Foundation.

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 8.46.25 AMThe article is revealing for reasons besides the outlet’s  willingness to add innuendo with breathless abandon prior to any facts are known. While it is now reported that the shooter did voice something to the effect “no more baby parts” that justifies nothing about the early wire service reports.  The liberal media in its zeal to create a picture of widespread violence directed at abortionists and abortuaries accepts without rejoinder  the statistics provided by an abortion advocacy group. But lets take their figure of eight murders at abortuaires, which by the way is over a time span of 42 years. Keep in mind the figure includes staff and abortionists.

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 8.42.28 AMGiven all that is wrapped up in the issue, historic analogies and the millions of people who hold ardent views, the figure 8 as a historical note, apart from the individual tragedies, is rather subdued.  That is because the right to life movement is a pro-life movement. In analyzing the figure one could objectively ask how much do abortionists have to fear compared to others with medical degrees?   In a cursory check of just plastic surgeons murdered in but thirty years we found six or seven (see links below) and that does not include staff. Interestingly, in the Google check we had as many “hits” for plastic surgeons accused of doing the murdering which is no doubt lower than for abortionists even outside the clinic.

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 8.04.12 AMBack to the press treatment of the Colorado killing — we have posted the relevant e-page image and links from the Argus Dispatch. Consider the space they have already given the acts (alleged) of Robert Lewis Dear. It includes an initial report Saturday on the front page, Sunday coverage approached a half page and today it approaches a full page. All were AP dispatches.

Now consider the coverage they gave regarding Kermit Gosnell a Philadelphia abortionist convicted of three murders, and accused of a fourth. There was enough testimony and malpractice lawsuits to suggest the injured adults far exceeded those at the hands of Dear as well. The amount of coverage is extremely lopsided and  you can bet the media will follow the Dear story throughout the week. You can read more of our commentaries regarding the coverage of Gosnell’s trial and conviction by using our search window.

The press reports today also repeated the earlier NYT transmittal of NARAL propaganda about incidents of violence and vandalism at abortion “clinics.” Our prediction is that assaults on peaceful pro-life protesters and vandalism on pro-life property (educational displays and messages) far out numbers what pro-abortionists accuse right to life adherents of.  I have been shoved (“assaulted”) and personally cursed at protesting abortion and rare is the pro-life demonstration that is not responded to with obscenities. Locally, displays depicting Christian pro-life witness have been vandalized and items stolen from exhibits simple depicting unborn human life. Our local experience is more sedate compared to other locales.

From the bits and pieces we are learning regarding the Colorado shooting, it appears that Dear mentally snapped, if he was not certifiable before. Some reliable commentaries have indicated he had no involvement with the right to life movement, nor a church, and he was not a Republican, to the great disappointment of the mainstream media (Gosnell of course did his murders under cover of the law).  We have heard that Dear detested Obama and maybe this was his insane way of striking at something close to Obama.

We appreciate Streiff’s comment, writing at Red State today he had this to offer:   (Bold emphasis not in original and note that Cecil Richards is the president of Planned Parenthood):

Violence is a tragedy and those who perpetuate violence, be they Dear or Cecile Richards — and let’s be serious, here, in terms of mere fatalities, Dear can’t hold a candle to Richards — should be punished to the full extent of the law. I am long past the point of caring what happens to either abortion clinics, anyone who works there, or anyone who supports abortion. I feel very much like John Kerry says he felt about the Charlie Hebdo shootings:

There was a sort of particularized focus and perhaps even a legitimacy in terms of – not a legitimacy, but a rationale that you could attach yourself to somehow and say, okay, they’re really angry because of this and that.

Three people were killed in Colorado Springs Friday. For additional perspective, over the previous weekend at least five people were murdered in Chicago alone. Still more were murdered there in each previous week and we expect will be so in coming weeks until who knows when. The Chicago deaths were not reported in our local papers, not given national coverage. Police officers rushed to the scene of the violence, and risked their lives there as well.  All lives matter, born and unborn, in a shopping center in Colorado Springs and in the mean streets of Chicago and Philadelphia.

Also note the item in red that is part of the New York Times report.  I wonder about the implications of this.  Bullets will easily pass through more than one standard interior partition made up of sheet rock.
