Who believes that Republican leadership will not fold on any budget confrontation?
Pete Kasperowicz writing at the Washington Examiner reports:
White House threatens shutdown to stop GOP policies
The White House said Thursday that if Congress sends President Obama a spending bill that includes Republican policy “riders” he opposes, he would not sign the bill, and instead would allow the government to partially shut down.
Republicans are considering adding language in a huge spending bill that must be signed by next week that would gut the Wall Street reform law, block Syrian refugees, and pause EPA regulations.
But White House spokesman Josh Earnest said those sorts of ideas wouldn’t fly, and made it clear that Obama wouldn’t sign such a bill.
For the Republican Party eunuchs, there is NO “power of the purse”. If they (and the new Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Head Eunuch) can be so intimidated from standing up for what a majority of the American people want, or constitutional principle and in the best interests of the nation…even the world…then there is no real hope for the survival of the free world.
When Obama asserts that he will not accept any legislation with which he does not agree and therefore, with the aid of a party which refuses to accept no authority other than that of its party’s leadership, he will reject it and thus cause the “government to shut down”, is there a rational, intelligent, objective person who would assign that “shutdown” responsibility to anyone other than the president?
And yet the best bet is the Republican leadership will ultimately fold, maybe allow a short-term technical “shutdown” (Obama won’t blink) and then resort to a short-term solution with everything intact for Obama, and then tell their constituencies they stood firm but that bad old bully Obama . . .
Republicans will finance what Obama wants or he will do what he wants and Republicans will do nothing about it. Some things can’t be walked back later and suing him is a mute errand. And in all of this Republican leadership thinks it is inspiring people to vote for them. Their strategies of insisting on the likes of McCain and Romney sure worked.
How else could have Obama been elected to lead the nation twice except by running against Republican eunuchs? How else would a Hillary Clinton still be considered a viable candidate to succeed him? Or a Bernie Sanders, self-proclaimed Socialist”?
