Actually, ”at this point”, it does make a difference! — Movie 13 Hours

“But — but the basic principle here — basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time information about what’s taking place.”                            Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, 2012

A “basic principle”? (Tell that to General Eisenhower in 1944)

NOT A MOVIE ABOUT SOME “GUYS OUT FOR A WALK…”

The movie “13 Hours” is now over 5 days since its release. While the fact-based account of the Benghazi disaster received fairly widespread pre-release publicity and hype, fueled mostly by conservative news and entertainment outlets, it has apparently not enjoyed overwhelming  attendance. Already the liberal media is crowing about what a box-office “flop” it is.

Unsurprisingly nothing could make the Hillary Clinton campaign happier, except a pre-emptive presidential pardon. The entire Obama administration is likely ‘high-fiving’, having ducked another well-deserved public indictment.  (more to the review below)

For America, it is one more tragic reflection of a great nation continuing in steep decline, its citizens besieged by daily assaults on its values, its history and traditions, and their own perceived inability to do anything about the dark forces of an enemy within. An enemy who works 24/7 to dim and ultimately eradicate their collective memory and understanding of what the nation’s greatness was based on. They have become indifferent and emotionally “sedated”

I went to see “13 Hours” this week. For two hours and 15 minutes, I shared with a couple of dozen people in a darkened theatre  an intensely moving depiction of an event of enormous importance as a commentary on modern America as it is led by Barack Obama. It will haunt you for days after.

It is a film which, is at once both a tribute to the courage, devotion to duty, and all of the very best elements of American character, and at the same time a stark and depressing example of decay, extraordinary incompetence, emotional isolation, arrogance, and complete absence of any trace of honest dealing by this nation’s present leadership.

If you don’t wish to see this film because you don’t like war movies, I’d urge you to “suck it up” and go see it anyway.

If you happen to be one of the relatively few “ordinary” Americans who are aware of the known and verified facts surrounding the Benghazi event, you’ll have an even better understanding of the horrors faced by some of the very best and bravest people any nation could hope to produce and their willingness to put everything on the line for their fellow man.

And, if like most of us, you are not familiar, in any great detail, with the external political climate which existed prior to, during, and in the immediate and continuing “post Benghazi” era, you may well come away from this film with a seething distrust of most everything you are fed on a daily basis by our news and political “betters”.

“13 Hours’ is not a “propaganda” picture. It is an honest reprise of an event which serves as an incredibly tragic metaphor for how our country is currently being led.

The filmmaker has been and will, of course, continue to be accused of having a political motivation for producing it. I don’t know what the maker’s motivations are, but I do recall how heavily promoted and lauded a film titled Fahrenheit 911 was. It was a pure distortion and misrepresentation of reality which was clearly intended to discredit a president and his administration in the midst of a controversial and bitter conflict. It was a film notable only because of it enthusiasm for abject dishonesty in the service of a blatant commitment to a gross political agenda.

And yet a certain area newspaper’s editorial page editor was apparently so moved by it that he invited conservative readers to view it in a non-theatre venue and participate in a “discussion” so that he could better “understand” their apparent issues with it. This editor even offered to ‘buy the popcorn”.

I wonder if the current editorship of that newspaper will be inclined to make a similar offer with respect to this film.       DLH

  1. Hugh Pries says:

As the movie and evidence given at the hearings – which by the way are being slow walked by those i thought had the interests of justice in mind – clearly shows, the idiots in the Bathhouse Barry regime did have real time intelligence, a/k/a a drone. There are no excuses left – this was a premeditated and planned attack having nothing to do with a video – this entire regime consists of cowards, traitors or incompetents, or any combination thereof.

  2. Hugh Pries says:

Additional commentary: Did you ever notice that those making the most deprecating remarks about this film are usually those who have never fought for anything, for that matter have never made a fist without their wanker (or someone else’s) in the middle of it?

  3. Dave Gerrasch says:

We went to see this film yesterday. I must say that I walked away both inspired and angry. Inspired by the soldiers who seem always to answer the call regardless of their own well being and angry by the cover up and lies from the current administration. Hillary calls these soldiers and their families liars. This women who lied about blaming it on a video. This women who lied about receiving or sending confidential e-mails. This women who said she never showed favoritism to people or companies who contributed to the Clinton Foundation. This women who enabled her cheating husband and destroyed the lives of the women he regularly pursued and continues to pursue others. This women has the nerve to call our heroes and their families liars. Question. How can anyone who failed to heed the pleadings of her Ambassador for more security and than failed to respond to their plight ever be considered to be qualified for Commander in Chief? I urge everyone to see this film to get some understanding of how tragic of an event this was and how cold and calculating Obama and Hillary are. I’m more angry than ever.

  4. Gus says:

Well said, Messrs. Pries and Gerrasch. Great responses.
However, the Democrat Party/Left media film critics have rushed out to inform moviegoers that “13 Hours” contains “no political message”…none at all, no! no! Some reviews are gleefully noting that “no on in Washington” is blamed for the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods.
Colin Covert of the Minneapolis Star is one. He writes: “The film doesn’t dwell on “complexities of US foreign policy in the increasingly volatile Middle East. It doesn’t pander to those still stirring controversy about the events, beyond noting several lapses in security.”
So it seems the Hillaryites and the left in general are breathing a sigh of relief that the “low information” folks are not being burdened with all those nutty charges (more commonly known as “facts” by rational people) hurled by “crazy right-wingers”. Sadly their feelings of relief are probably well-placed. If you’re a devoted MSM reader/listener/viewer you can watch the film without being enraged when you are not aware of the damning underlying facts of the entire Obama administration Benghazi debacle.
