Phobias can be deadly

gunfreezone_sccc_14july09CEO Shaich announces policy that guns aren’t allowed in any of its 1800 Panera Bread locations; shortly after, two police officers were shot to death at a Panera Bread restaurant in Maryland. Soon after that, patrons at a bakery and restaurant in Ohio were attacked by a Machete-wielding gentleman named Mohammed Barry.

Despite Policy Banning All Guns, Shooting at Panera Bread Leaves Two Police Officers Dead

According to CNBC, Shaich said that Panera just wanted to “recognize everyone’s rights.”  However, those who support concealed carry point out that being armed in a public place can save lives and stop an active shooter before authorities arrive. Both Starbucks and Target have made similar announcements in the past.

The company’s policy, unfortunately, didn’t stop David Brian Evans from wielding his gun on the premises, or from tragically ending the lives of two police officers.

As of today Panera’s Mr. Shaich has not announced what the restaurant chain’s policy is on allowing machetes.

Networks Skirt Mentioning Islamism in Machete Attack Coverage

ABC, CBS, NBC’s Friday evening newscasts all failed to mention Islamism as a possible motive in their coverage of the machete attack inside an Ohio restaurant on Thursday. ABC’sWorld News Tonight didn’t even use the word “terrorism” during their report on Mohamed Barry’s rampage. Alex Perez merely noted that “Barry was known to the FBI, but was not under a full-scale investigation.” CBS’s Jeff Pegues underlined that “police say the assault has the hallmarks of a terrorism-inspired attack.” Pegues was also the only Big Three correspondent to report that Barry was “here in the U.S. on a green card.”
