Republican governors continue to roll. Paul LePage, the guber of Maine endorsed Trump…Cruz wins!
It’s only a rumor you understand, but the word is out that the Cruz ground game consists mainly of his operatives persuading GOPe toady governors to come out in favor of the establishment’s latest JEB stand-in.
The preferred option is reported to be the “Branstad Ploy”: Don’t endorse a certain candidate, just tell your state’s voters to vote “ABC (Anybody But Cruz)” .
Not all governors are witless enough to be persuaded to employ that tactic, however, so an alternative which has yielded very nearly the same results, with a bit less personal humiliation for the governor, is the “Brownback/Haley Gambit”: Get them to endorse the establishment’s hapless JEB impersonator, El Marco.
As seen in Maine today, though, there are governors not needing any prodding to fall on their face.
