. . . now it may decide the Republican nominee
Noon (here and in 12 counties in Indiana) the rest of Indiana – 1:00PM
This veritaspac editor will post off and on (or extend posts off and on) throughout the day today regarding the two main combatants in the Indiana Republican primary, and how the Republican leadership and the process produced the situation we are in. The posts will be random, like Trump speeches, but hopefully in coherent sentences, unlike him. I will do this at least up until Indiana is decided. At that point we will curtail in order to glean and reflect on other considered opinion from our “go to” sources. As always, the comment line is available. Be aware that some may be turned into featured posts for discussion. The posts / comments today should not be considered as endorsed or supported by anyone connected with veritaspac.com other than me (or as identified if others want to chime in).

Item (most recent) Had set this Ross Douthat article aside to read and just picked it up again from the pile. It seems that we are perhaps on the same wavelength, already expressed with less equanimity then him below. The entire article is highly recommended. Give Us a King! (excerpts).
Executive-branch Caesarism has been raised to new heights by the last two presidents, and important parts of the country have responded by upping the ante, and — like ancient Israelites in the Book of Samuel — basically clamoring for a king.
That clamor is loudest from the Trumpistas and their dear leader. Donald Trump is clearly running to be an American caudillo, not the president of a constitutional republic, and his entire campaign is a cult of personality in the style of (the pro-Trump) Vladimir Putin. (snip)
Tellingly, none of these Trump-era enthusiasms involve a reinvigoration of congressional prerogatives or a renewed push for federalism and states’ rights.
Quite the reverse: They all imagine that the solution to our problems lies with a more effective and still-more-empowered president, free from antique constitutional limits and graced with a mandate that transcends partisanship.
And if this is not true, none of Trump’s high-profile “conservative” supporters , certainly not the candidate, have taken due care to seriously acknowledge the Constitution or its restoration. As for Trump’s rank and file support — don’t trouble them with forms of government, history, abuses of power, economics, due care. They just want change, they are as impatient adolescents that do not recognize the gravity of the situation, the implications of the various solutions, that Trumps mouthiness is no substitute for substance. They just want somebody to make their problems go away, smite the establishment, (deservedly) but never admitting their impatience aggravated by ignorance is not restorative. A really important article.
Item: Listening to Rush a little today – it started out irritating – bringing up the nonsense about Cruz’s dad, the Kennedy assassination and Lee Harvey Oswald. It was National Enquirer stuff repeated as expected by Mr. no integrity, but jack-ass impulsive, Donald Trump. The next time I tuned in, Rush was talking about one of Bill Clinton’s ex-bimbos who had been written up somewhere describing Clinton’s anatomy. Rush felt compelled to to get into the details. Now it is nice to ridicule Democrats but the entire segment could have been handled with more appreciation for younger audiences in ear shot.
Item: No Trump supporter can suggest that it is time to “come together” and get behind the Donald in the face of Hillary. Trump has cared not a twit about that as regards the other candidates. There can be no question he started the bully-boy grotesqueness and has been the only one of the candidates to make it his campaign personna. And wasn’t it cute, for about a month. Which is bad, but his ostensibly conservative high profile supporters are forevermore to be thought of as unprincipled hacks in their own way comparable to establishment hacks because Trump is not a conservative.
Some are absolutely contemptible – Ann Coulter in particular along with whoever runs Gateway Pundit and Conservative Tree House. Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, are pathetic at best. Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee have managed to confirm many respects of the negative opinion about them as has Ben Carson and Chris Christie. Unfortunately there are too many more.
It is not about defending Trump against hypocrisy, these people have covered for him and enhanced him. Do they really not see that they are supporting a rich-kid punk and a dolt (I don’t give a sh*t how much money he has made in ways as unprincipled as his politics, if he actually has any politics). They are pathetic “we need a strong man savior big daddy” who have picked someone who is unqualified, and who clearly does not give a dam about the Constitution they sometimes say they revere. The Donald is largely an ignoramus about so much he will have to deal with as president. There is no grandness about him, it is only by the recognizably consistent evil of the likes of Hillary Clinton that he can win.
The claims, of the aforementioned Trump supporting ilk, that they are concerned about the country are really cover for fecklessness. Oh I am aware of their conservative writings and lambasting of the establishment, which is why I can think the above and call them to task, assuming they have any remaining integrity. Oh and one more thing, I will never buy one of their damn books again.
Item: Forgive my apoplexy. Obviously I have nothing good to say about Donald Trump today. Regrettably he is a reflection of a big part of the electorate. I don’t trust him, his sincerity and certainly not his depth. His advantage is we can trust Hillary to do the worst. He will be a major high maintenance entity for conservatives just on basic stuff we should not have to worry about. We need to be focused on helping him undo liberalism and restore our constitutional republic, not babysitting him. Trump does not know what a constitutional republic is.
