Ben Shapiro; Trump Just Burned Down Conservatism. The Time To Rebuild Begins Now.     (excert)

Trump’s “something new” is something quite old, and quite un-American. If conservatives want a future, they must stand against him and his corrupt, bankrupt philosophy.

2016 could have been a time to reap the harvest of conservatism. Instead, Trump burned down the field.

It’s time to plant anew. We should do so with alacrity rather than embracing the man holding the match.

Devastating compendium re  Trump

Erick Erickson:   I Oppose Hillary Clinton and Her Donor, Donald Trump    (excerpts)

From here on out, it will be somewhat refreshing to cover this race hating them all. Republicans will say Trump has not yet set about attacking Hillary. The truth is that she has not yet set about attacking Trump. Republicans may have attacked his small hands. The Democrats will be far more substantive in their attacks with opposition research the Republicans never even pulled out.

I suspect by December even most Trump supporters will deny they supported him.

The coming general election will be the nastiest and most brutal in American history. Both sides will work not to win votes, but to deny the other side votes. That will involve attack after attack and little persuasion. And on this Clinton has a real advantage in that Trump already starts this general election with massively higher unfavorable ratings.

The Republican Party is broken and is not, for now, a viable opposition to the Democrats. Principled conservatives will have to go elsewhere even as the charlatans heckle them as helping Hillary Clinton.

Matt Walsh:  Goodbye, Republican Party. And Good Riddance.

Walsh’s article is trenchant, somewhat lengthy but worthy

Andrew McCarthy:  #NeverThirdParty?   (excerpts)

I also oppose Trump, but I have resisted signing on to #NeverTrump because I haven’t believed I could do so honestly. I think of myself as #NeverHillary. I could not in good conscience say that I would never vote for Trump if the race came down to the two of them. Concededly, I’m closer today than I have ever been to confessing error on that score.

I’ve kept telling myself, as one loathsome Trump episode followed another, that “he’s still better than Hillary,” or that “there’s a chance he would surround himself with good advisers and pick good judges, which compares favorably to the certainty that Clinton will do harm.” But self-delusion has its limits. Today, atop the accumulation of lunacies and outrages to date, we have the truly insane “Lyin’ Ted’s dad conspired with Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate JFK” bit. It indicates that my colleagues have been right, and I’ve been wrong, all along. Not only may Trump be unfit; he may be unhinged.  (snip)

Republicans won’t use the power they have on these fronts, and we make excuses for them. Can it really be that only Donald Trump should get the #Never treatment?

From where I sit, the Democrats and the Republican establishment both tell me that the candidate championing the principles I believe in is “Lucifer in the flesh.” I still hope Ted Cruz will be the Republican nominee, but if he’s not, I may be happy to have a third-party alternative.

GOP Donors: Not a Dime for Bloviating Billionaire Trump, Who is Supposedly ‘Self-Funded’

“If I’m a donor, why would I give to someone who claims that the only reason I give is to get something?” said Lisa Spies, a Republican fundraising consultant in Washington who advised Romney in 2012, and this cycle raised money for Jeb Bush. “If Trump is as wealthy as he says he is, he can fund his own campaign.”

Weekly Standard’s John McCormack analysis: CNN Poll: Trump Trails Clinton by 13 Points Even As He Leads 84% to 12% Among Republicans

A new CNN poll shows Hillary Clinton crushing Donald Trump among registered voters by 13 points (54 percent to 41 percent). The same survey shows that Clinton trails Ohio governor John Kasich by 7 points (51 percent to 44 percent) in a general election match-up.

Many Trump supporters have said they would blame a general election Trump loss on Republicans who refuse to vote for the presumptive GOP nominee, but the CNN poll shows that Trump would lose to Clinton even if he had the support of 100 percent of Republicans.  (snip)

A lot can change in six months, but both candidates have benefited from saturation media coverage and nearly 100 percent name identification. It may be more difficult to change voters’ views about both Trump and Clinton than it has been to shift opinions about presidential candidates in past elections.

Sixteen Republicans tried to take down Trump and failed, Limbaugh said, adding that “Hillary Clinton is next up, and we shall see.”  (snip)

The contextual obtuseness of that statement is beneath Rush.  And  . . .
