TEA Party wins in Iowa and North Carolina

Steve King easily defeats opponent put up by Corny Capitalist Gov. Branstad

TEA Party turncoat Congresswoman Renee Elmers ousted in North Carolina – right to life issue figures heavily

From the Sioux City Journal:

The Associated Press called the 4th District race for King at 9:57 p.m. With 10 percent reporting, King held a commanding 63 percent to 37 percent lead (over challenger State Senator Rick Bertrand) in the sprawling district, which covers 39 counties in Northwest and North central Iowa.

(snip)

One of the main reasons Bertrand challenged the incumbent was because King caused a stir in November when he endorsed presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who doesn’t support an extension to the federal Renewable Fuel Standard for corn-based ethanol. That caused Gov. Terry Branstad and others to publicly criticize King’s pick, in order to defend an industry that is so important to the state.

That is putting it nicely. It was the proverbial FU effort by the drunk-on-corn-ethanol interests that funded and “inspired” Bertrand.

King, who supported the Renewable Fuel Standard by the way, didn’t quite toe the line in supporting Ted Cruz  who was unacceptable to the powers that be (corn ethanol producers who want cradle to grave corporate welfare).  King’s opponent was also egged on by faux capitalist interests that want cheap  (illegal) labor to keep wages down. King is a hardliner on immigration. That factor also was rumored to bring out a campaign, by the usual suspects in such matters, to get Democrats to vote in the Republican primary, to oust King, discourage the Republican vote in the general, and thereby provide a better chance for the illegal immigration amnesty Democrat candidate.

Turncoat Renee Ellmers dismissed by Republican voters

Ellmers was running in a redrawn congressional district against another incumbent Congressman —  George Holding — and a third candidate, Gregg Brannon.

From Breitbart: Rep. Renee Ellmers Loses Primary Fight, Despite Donald Trump Endorsement

Ellmers came to Congress in the 2010 Tea Party wave, but abandoned her conservative principles after her election. She voted in favor of President Barack Obama’s 2014 executive amnesty and his funding for Syrian refugees, and she led a charge to shelve the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in 2015 on the eve of the March for Life.

(snip)

National pro-life organization the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) declared victory once Holding was declared the winner in North Carolina’s 2nd District primary election.

The pro-life group’s North Carolina ground operation and field team knocked on more than 12,500 doors across the district in the last few weeks.

According to the findings from SBA List’s door surveys in North Carolina’s 2nd District:

37.8 percent of Ellmers’ own supporters said they were less likely to vote for her, once learning of her role in derailing the Pain-Capable bill.

67.3 percent of undecided pro-life primary voters were less likely to vote for Ellmers, knowing her role in derailing the Pain-Capable bill.

“Susan B. Anthony List exists to support and amplify pro-life women’s voices,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA List president and a North Carolina native. “Rep. Renee Ellmers was our ally until she led the charge to derail the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. That’s why we had to flex the political muscle of the pro-life movement. She has her own failed leadership to blame for this loss.”

There are many lessons from these two elections, will the other recently elected  incumbents who rode the “TEA Party wave” take note?
