Obama’s selective respect of sovereignty

In 2009, this would have been shocking. Today, ho-hum, so what’s new?

Obama admin. sent taxpayer money to campaign to oust Netanyahu*

thegreatest+(2)-1Excerpt from the Washington Times (graphic not in original)

The State Department paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers grants to an Israeli group that used the money to build a campaign to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in last year’s Israeli parliamentary elections, a congressional investigation concluded Tuesday.

Some $350,000 was sent to OneVoice, ostensibly to support the group’s efforts to back Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement negotiations. But OneVoice used the money to build a voter database, train activists and hire a political consulting firm with ties to President Obama’s campaign — all of which set the stage for an anti-Netanyahu campaign, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said in a bipartisan staff report.

Apparently there are no grounds for impeachment when it comes to Barack Hussein Obama. The most common designation for any executive branch dept. in the Obama regime today is “rogue agency” within a desperately dangerous “rogue administration”.

This is just one more unprecedented action by this regime which would bring down the government in any democratic republic anywhere in the world.

Surely, conservative pundits will recall for their readers Obama’s refusal to support Iran’s “Green Revolution” when it could have changed everything for the world’s chances for relative peace, but he refused to because he “respected Iran’s sovereignty”:

President Obama made his first statement on the protests and violence on June 15, (2009) in a news conference:

Obviously all of us have been watching the news from Iran. And I want to start off by being very clear that it is up to Iranians to make decisions about who Iran’s leaders will be; that we respect Iranian sovereignty and want to avoid the United States being the issue inside of Iran, which sometimes the United States can be a handy political football — or discussions with the United States.

In a sane world, this would hilarious. Obama did not “respect Libya’s sovereignty, or Egypt’s” as he supported the overthrow of those regimes, which of course were friendly to the US…something Mr. Obama apparently deplores….abhors.

And he certainly did not respect Israel’s sovereignty . . . America’s most dependable ally in the volatile Middle East!

But naturally there are the usual “qualifiers” and “legally ambiguous, ill-defined ‘guidelines’, arguably permissible “exceptions” to established precedents and rules, etc, etc, etc. mentioned in the WT article quoted at top. For example:

“was not deemed illegal because the State Department never put any conditions on the money…”

“…the subcommittee said OneVoice even told the State Department’s top diplomat in Jerusalem of its plans in an email, but the official, Consul General Michael Ratney, claims never to have seen them…”

“He said he regularly deleted emails with large attachments — a striking violation of open-records laws…”

Those without at this point an overly weakened stomach can read the following articles

Obama To Iran Green Revolution Dissidents: Drop Dead  (excerpted here)

Mideast: During their brutally suppressed protests in 2009, Iranian freedom fighters sent the White House an urgent memo calling for help. Under Obama, America ignored it.

‘So now, at this pivotal point in time, it is up to the countries of the free world to make up their mind,” Iranian opposition leaders told the Obama administration in an eight-page memo in 2009. “Will they continue on the track of wishful thinking and push every decision to the future until it is too late, or will they reward the brave people of Iran and simultaneously advance the Western interests and world peace.”

President Obama made his choice, and like so often before it was to vote “present.”

You can also read the following Washington Pos Post article, which while providing its usual cover for anything Obama does that should outrage Americans, serves to confirm the main point about Obama’s selective treatment of sovereignty in that he refused to help Iranian dissidents.
