A Veritaspac dialogue ensues …. first up … DLH … then R Mall … then … other “win-win” solutions.
According To Drudge, most polls, with the notable exception of CNN, gave the debate to Trump. Hard to imagine how that is possible.
For me, if there is ever a “winner” in spectacles like this, last night’s was Clinton. It was not that Hillary was that great. Rather it was that her opponent came to the event unarmed. Trump obviously left his suitcase full of facts so damaging to Clinton’s candidacy back in his hotel room.
His best defensive move which he failed to turn into a spectacular offensive was his response to Hillary’s demand for him to release his taxes: “I’ll release my taxes if Hillary releases her 32,000 ‘lost’ emails”. Unfazed Hillary continued to press the taxes matter with the charge that Trump “must have something to hide”.
What an opening provided by someone who is well-known for hiding everything, even at the cost of betraying a sacred trust, seriously jeopardizing national security, and probably breaking numerous federal laws.
But Trump failed to take the opportunity.
In my opinion, debates are possibly the worst way to influence an election. Anyone who bases their vote on the contents or outcome of one of these kinds of debates has to be among the least engaged in the electoral process or the most ill-informed.
Unfortunately, there is evidence to suggest that the debates are among the most influential in determining the election outcome. Mr. Trump seemed to not be aware of this reality.
This past week, Hillary Clinton told an audience that she was baffled and amazed that she was not leading in polls by 50 points. Based upon her dramatically failed performance as Secretary of State, her gravely serious betrayal of public trust, her apparently numerous illegal actions, and her declared contempt for 25 to 50% of the American people, there are at least 50 reasons she should not be in the race and most likely should be in jail.
And Donald Trump failed to exploit any of the facts related to those stark ‘disqualifications”. He apparently thinks that all of the debate viewers are fully versed on Ms. Clinton’s awful baggage.
Sadly, thanks to a corrupt mainstream media and entertainment industry, they are not!
Donald, next time, take the appropriate hardware to this fight. DLH
I agree, he could have, indeed should have, put her away this first “debate.” There was plenty available to do it with — had he “brought it.”
I am known as a regular debate watcher, but not this one. I refused to watch it live. I opted to have others deal real-time with whatever expectations they had and report. I knew there would be a variety of takes, including observations about Lester Holt playing Hillary’s game.
My brother, schooled in forensics and a college debate coach offered that all Trump has to do in the debates is obtain a draw, and maybe not that, as people gravitate toward change, and Hillary is the same o’ same o’
Trump went the gentlemen route (he told us so) when Hillary attacked him for being misogynistic. He could have responded, “you are the biggest enabler of such with your creepy husband who denigrated the office of President, you have nothing to say about that to the American people.” She might have used her Depends right then and there.
Not pressing Benghazi or other items — what a shame — because he could have put her on a defensive trajectory.
On the matter of influence of the debates on polls, some have said not so much, and whatever is real needs to be waited on a few days for the response to sink in. Of course the “sink in” implies social media spinning it. NeverHillary have a lot to shout out about and they should. R Mall
Other debate solutions, a sort of win-win:
The Trump “miss” that bothered me most was when Hillary insisted that our allies must trust us to honor our treaties. How I wished DJT had said “Tell that to the Ukrainians.”
