Media hysteria, anti-Trump bias, solid objective reporting…your call readers

images-27One of Donald Trump’s earliest appointments to his most inner circle of his administration- elect is Stephen K. Bannon, CEO of Breitbart News, the very successful conservative news  and opinion organization and early supporter of the Trump candidacy.

This appointment has triggered absolute hysteria among mainstream media, seldom if ever, witnessed.

The left is in an absolute frenzy!

Bannon has been labeled  sexist, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, you name it…he’s really, really evil.  And to prove their allegations, as  Exhibits A thru Z  (it’s apparently all they’ve got)… they’ve referred to columns, actually just headlines, not columns, which have appeared in Breitbart’s online publication by writers like “Milo” Yiannapolis and David Horowitz.

Their favorite “exhibits” are “Bill Kristol: Renegade Republican, Renegade Jew” by Horowtz, and “The Solution to Online Harassment is Simple: Women Should Log Off” by Mr. Yiannapolis.

The key to alerting America to Mr. Bannon’s deplorable shortcomings obviously lies in the words “Jew”, which makes him automatically anti-semitic,  and suggesting that “Women” should do something, which obviously confirms his misogynism,  appearing in these headlines. This, even though, Bannon authored neither of the columns and neither is anywhere near as portrayed.

We contend that both of these columnists, “Milo” and Horowitz, are not only excellent writers but also very bright, very reasonable, and nothing like as the anti-Trumpers have tried to depict them.

Only the most uninformed, careless consumer of current news events and opinion, reads a headline over a column and thinks they have a deep understanding of the thoughts and ideas put forth in it. Virtually every columnist, on the right or left, seeks a “hook” to get the reader to delve into the reasoning and analysis behind the headline. Often, in the ” popular” press, copy editors will assign their own headlines, also intended to provoke interest in the content of the column.

A column entitled “Is Satan Unfairly Demonized?” may enrage the casual “headline scanner” while the piece itself might unequivocally make the opposite argument to what the headline implies.

And thus, with the Breitbart columns that most outrage the liberal media, the content is much more reasoned and reasonable than they prefer to describe it to advance their agenda.

Just to emphasize the point, we urge reasonably predisposed folks to actually read the two columns, the one by “Milo”, the other by David Horowitz. We are linking to both. We’d like your opinion as to whether these columns reflect the pathology of their authors as the left charges.

Excellent points Don. The headline does not always grab the essence of the story and in the space available, often enough cannot. As volunteers, we write for the most part when the mood strikes us. Changes to Don’s posts from this end are 99% me wanting to add my two-cents as I get into the point of the article. It is enthusiasm on my part however no doubt sometimes to Don’s chagrin.

Ninety-nine plus per cent of typos, misspellings grammar problems are mine, in my postings or embellishments to DLH writings. He is that accurate. As I read a lot of posts from professional conservative writers contributing to publications with probably at least two layers of vetting I still see typos and misspellings. Here, if anything is to ever get posted it often has to be in a rush to do so and so mistakes are made.

As to content, our shtick often includes making a point with a little punch, extending ridicule to the high and mighty (or those that think they are). The graphics associated with a story are mostly my picks and admittedly do not always fit perfectly with writers posts, but having no talent in graphic design means I can’t do much on my own other than to caption some items or select a rough fit. Readers should keep in mind we invite submissions. You have much more freedom than the restrictions imposed on letters to the editor and graphics are a possibility.
