Ash explains
He appears that he’d be more comfortable in a ‘zoot suit’ and part of a vaudeville act.
You remember “Ash” Carter? For a couple more weeks he will be our “Faux” Defense Secretary…a job he does more like a vaudeville act than serious national defense policy management.
The Wall Street Journal on Saturday reports on Mr. Carter holding forth on Russian actions in Syria. Doubtful that even a casual reader would see the Journal’s story as a terribly sober assessment of the Secretary’s or of the Obama administration’s Syrian or Defense policy in general.
Charging that “Russia has done nothing to help defeat Islamic State forces in Syria, and has adopted a strategy of “explicitly thwarting the US elsewhere…”, gave a hard-hitting interview to an obviously admiring reporter/columnist, Gerald seib..
The story’s “punchline” is, “As Mr. Carter’s comments suggest, Russia has emerged as the national-security issue on which the contrast between the outgoing Obama administration and the upcoming Trump administration is most striking.
“Asked whether the incoming president and his team are taking an overly rosy view of the role Russia is playing in Syria,” he replied, “I can’t speak for them…but I’ve been working with Russia for a quarter-century now…”, but Carter apparently concedes that neither he nor the Obama administration have accomplished much.
Or maybe, more accurate to say he may not concede that point but it is painfully obvious.
“Ash” also advised that the US “will have to show the leadership in Europe that keeps NATO together…”
(RIMSHOT, PLEASE)
If one doesn’t see the humor in that remark, they’ve not been paying attention to Obama’s policy of “leading from his behind”, er, I mean, “leading from behind” by which the US stands a safe distance behind our allies and allows our adversaries…Iran, China, Russia…to take the leadership.
As to the “Russian Matter”, just a quick walk down “Memory Lane”:
“Gov. Romney, I’m glad that you recognize that al Qaeda is a threat,” Obama said, “because a few months ago when you were asked what’s the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said Russia.”
“The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years,” Obama said.(Obama-Romney debate, 2012)

– Mr Obama says: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defence, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.”
Mr Medvedev replies: “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you …”
Mr Obama retorts: “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.” (Famous Obama ‘open mic’ gaffe, 2012)

– Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tells Russian foreign minister Lavrov how eager she and Obama are to “reset relations between the two countries). To illustrate sincerity and her own cleverness, Secretary Clinton presents Mr. Lavrov with a red button which she explains in Russian, means “reset” as in the relations she seeks.
Lavrov notes that the Russian translation Ms. Clinton thinks says “reset” actually says “overcharge”

OOPS! That’s a term which applies both in this gaffe as well as to describe the entire Obama-Clinton foreign policy disaster that the incoming president will have to deal with. One “overcharge” to the American people after another. And one gigantic gaffe after another!
