As the Daily Mail reports: ‘Ordinary ‘citizen’ John McCain dispatched a trusted aide across the Atlantic to get dirty dossier from ex-spy after former British diplomat told him about blackmail tapes John McCain has been celebrated for decades for his “heroic behavior” as a POW at the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War.
His actions in refusing to accept freedom as part of an extraordinary North Vietnamese propaganda ploy have long enjoyed mythic status…exceeding even the courageous exploits of that other Vietnam “war hero”, John F. Kerry.
In both cases their wartime backgrounds helped propel them to high public office and become the stuff of legend in the minds of many Americans. Arguably both were nominees for president, in large part because of their “heroic” exploits, real in the case of one, a complete fabrication in the case of the latter.
Both of these men, however, have long passed their “sell by” date.
Kerry should have always been universally condemned as a national disgrace; McCain has steadily declined from his earned “Olympian” pedestal year-by-year…and is now certifiably, a bitter, vindictive, destructive individual who should now leave, for all time, the national stage.
Apparently so enraged by Donald Trump’s remarks during the campaign, belittling his singular claim to admiration, Senator McCain’s role in the sleazy smear effort attempting to delegitimize the soon-to-be president of the United States, has most certainly earned him immediate retirement from public life. “Citizen McCain” should consider doing so before there is some similar ‘misguided’ and equally contemptible effort to shop a false story that his N.Vietnam POW experience was all a fraud.
The nation does not need any more of this stuff. DLH
