“Civil Rights Icon”, John Lewis to Boycott Republican President-elect Trump’s Inauguration…for the Second Consecutive Time
Also Boycotted G W Bush’s Inauguration; Congressman Lewis Seems to Believe No Republican President Is “Legitimate”
“Civil rights icon”, that’s included in the lede in virtually every “news” story about Congressman Lewis’s announced boycott of Donald Trump’s inauguration in every media outlet.
What one’s qualifications must be to be an “icon” is a little vague to me. Whatever those ‘qualifications’ are, however, I’ll stipulate for the record that Democrat Congressman, John Lewis, has them.
Therefore it is fair to include that bit of information in every story which seems aimed at celebrating the legislator’s “courage” in announcing he is boycotting president-elect Trump’s Inauguration.
What should not be omitted from every such story is that Mr. Lewis’s “principled” action is not “unprecedented”.
Whatever noble reason Lewis claims for disrespecting an important tradition which celebrates the peaceful transfer of power in America, this isn’t the first time he has taken such action. As has been, it seems, far less widely reported than, say, the totally discredited “Buzzfeed” smear attempt against Mr. Trump, is the fact that “civil rights icon”, John Lewis, boycotted President George W. Bush’s inauguration also.
It is not unfair to suggest that “civil rights icon” John Lewis doesn’t believe ANY Republican presidency is “legitimate”!
Is that what “civil rights icons” stand for?
Seems to me, that’s an important part of the story that honest media would include with Mr. Lewis’s obligatory honorific.
