Shortly after The attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government enlisted director Frank Capra to make a series of films. This serial of individually titled films was bundled under the name “Why we fight”. Considered by some as Government propaganda, each film explains events in Europe and Asia leading up to our involvement in WW2.
These 7 black and white films, roughly an hour each, explained, from an American viewpoint, events leading up to the total war encompassing the globe. I purchased those films on VHS back in the day for almost nothing. The maps, charts, and “actual footage” a boon for a WW2 buff such as myself. Some might say it’s slanted toward a U.S. view, I’d just say it’s mostly the truth.
It was produced and presented to convince. To change minds. To turn the ambivalent into supporters.
It’s “Why I write”.
We have a divided nation. People like myself on the right, and left. We are entrenched. Our world views are set. No amount of ‘splaining will make me a lib, the leftist is equally intransigent. But there are millions on the fence. Mostly, they don’t care about politics. Sports, jobs, kids, and life in general are at the top of their lists.
Politics not only bores them, it annoys them.
Those are the targets of my essays. If one can present a simple, reasoned, persuasive argument, there is a chance to bring those individuals part way to my point of view. A bit of cleverness, some wry humor, and lack of malice goes a long way. When contrasted with the vulgar, mean-spirited, and frenzied violence expressed by the left, we (conservative/libertarian) have an opportunity to win some hearts and minds.
Veritaspac’s content is exactly what I’m describing. Unknown to me until recently, now a daily read. Good humor, and intelligent posts make it a place I’m totally comfortable being associated with.
There is an opportunity to present the conservative agenda as the voice of reason, and maturity. Maybe even a bit fun. The radical left is pushing those fence-sitters our way. Let’s continue to welcome them to our side.
That is “Why I write”.
