I’m a sick man.
Physically, I’m spry for a 63 year old retiree, but my mind is riddled with disease. I’m conservative, holding what was once considered a traditional perspective on the world. Not any more. I’m now a phobe.
It came upon me without knowing. Insanity is like that. One day I was just a normal guy, a lot like my folks, neighbors and co-workers. Life was good. Then a raft of phobias overwhelmed me. How did it happen? A traumatic experience? Hit on the head? Virus? Nope. I was infected by a distortion of the dictionary.
The definition of a phobia used to be: An unreasonable fear of an object or situation.that can cause avoidance and panic. Phobias are a relatively common type of anxiety disorder. One suffering from a phobia is a phobe.
No longer. Today phobia is defined as: “The state of mind which exists upon disagreement with the liberal/progressive point of view.”
I believe the United States is a sovereign nation. I’m a xenophobe. I’m concerned that the almost routine terrorist attacks seen in Europe and here could worsen without vigilance. Islamophobe. Always thought men and women got married. Homophobe. The list is legion. I’ve got them all. Paralyzed with fear, it’s a wonder I can get up in the morning. But don’t weep for me.
The saddest victims are those with real phobias. I knew a person who suffered from agoraphobia. They were almost unable to leave their house. When confronted with strange surroundings or situations they would get a panic attack that could almost incapacitate them. It was tragic, and took a lot of real work and treatment to become even minimally functional in society. All these “fake phobias” diminish the pain those affected by actual phobias endure.
These real people with real problems are thrown under the bus because most liberals are too lazy or too stupid to compete in the arena of ideas. A progressive says, “Your position is invalid, not because I can debunk it, but because you’re nuts.” It used to work, but not any more. Like the “boy who cried wolf,” it’s been used on too many people, too many times.
I have some real fears. I’m afraid my kids will have a country devolving into perversion and chaos. I’m concerned that the freedoms I served to protect, and others shed blood for could be surrendered to political correctness. I’m involved in the fight to prevent that.
I’m sick all right. Sick and tired of their B.S.

So Gene admits to a (shared) phobia in these pages. A guest commentary in the Chicago Tribune admits to a condition we also share, being a “Deplorable.” Thanks to a friend of a reader for bringing it to our attention.
