ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON “INSPECTOR CLO– USEAU WORKING FOR THE TRUMP WEST WING”?
There are unsettling indications that, indeed, the “Inspector” is a “Mr. Big” in the Trump White House.
In addition to the somewhat alarming examples cited in this piece, others are emerging almost daily.
There is an interesting, if not disturbing, analysis today in a column by Kimberley Strassel in the Wall Street Journal. Entitled “Mattis’s Pyrrhic Personnel War”, the columnist notes that since the General’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense, not a single sub-cabinet position in the Pentagon has been nominated.
According to Strassel the main reason is that Secretary Mattis is battling with the White House over who gets the jobs.
The 8 years of Obama have produced the weakest US military posture since WWII. All branches have suffered severe budget cuts, reduced manpower, and maybe even worse, have become liberal social experiments, diverting the scarce resources to all kinds of diversity programs and progressive wet dreams. Mattis is widely regarded as the person who will fix the Obama mess.
Strassel accepts that Mattis is a believer that “defense should always be a bi-partisan cause” and the SecDef should have some input into the people who become key subordinates.
But, in line with that view, Mattis has touted some current holdovers from the Obama administration as well as some former Bush defense appointees who have been outspoken “NeverTrumpers”.
Strassel notes that, perhaps worse yet, Mattis is also blocking solid conservative talent the Trump team would like to see in important posts.
Consequently many jobs are going unfilled or possibly continue to be staffed by Obama era holdovers who were the very people who were instrumental in causing the devastating weakening of our armed forces. She cites one, Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, Stephen Hedger. This guy helped write an “infamous 2016 Pentagon memo outlining how the Obama administration could use a veto of greater defense spending as a ‘weapon’ to get other Obama priorities.”
In our opinion, Mattis, widely acclaimed and highly touted by both parties and most conservative pundits, is starting to look like another “personnel coup” by “Mr. Clouseau”, helping to undermine the Trump agenda and the will of the voters who put him in the Oval Office.
Hopefully Secretary Mattis will very soon come to the realization that he is just that, “SECRETARY” Mattis, not “PRESIDENT MATTIS”!
In the meantime, President Trump should take another look at his advisors we know as “Inspector Clouseau” to determine if they are actually “Establishment Moles” who have successfully burrowed into his team.
The sooner he does so, the better…before his “Dream Team” starts to look like a “Nightmare Roster”. DLH
