THERE IS MUCH TO BE SAID, AND WILL BE, ABOUT PRESIDENT TRUMP’S FIRST FORMAL ADDRESS OF CONGRESS.
But, this one excerpt from columnist Byron York’ analysis, is the best summary one is likely to see.
“A good speech, and most importantly, it was better than any thought it would be,” emailed Curt Anderson, who ran Bobby Jindal’s presidential campaign. [Trump said] “
‘My job is not to represent the world, my job is to represent the United States of America’ — AND THE DEMOCRATS DID NOT APPLAUD. Just think about that for a moment. This simple sentence captures the heart of Trump’s appeal. And it is also the Achilles heel of the Democrats.”
I believe the speech was great. In one respect, it was typical Trump: he pulled no punches even though nearly all the pundits and political “experts” had warned that he must, or it would be disastrous.
On the other hand, in addition to the incredibly poignant tribute to the fallen Navy Seal, this speech was eloquent, a characteristic not normally ascribed to Mr. Trump.
But perhaps the observation at the top of this commentary really summarizes the impact and foretells the bright future for the Trump presidency and the American people.
The Democrat reaction to it foretells, dramatically, the dismal future for the far left Democratic party.
As they sat on their hands at the President’s statement, there is nothing that could have better illustrated what an embittered, negative, totally self-absorbed, unabashedly anti-America bunch of people today’s Democratic party is filled with.
At no other time in history did the Party’s symbol so vividly describe it…the Party of the Ass!
