Below is a collection of observations about Trump’s “100 day” mark, a very arbitrary milestone anyway. But first, as to our own observations:
We are not pleased with the initial proposal for Obamacare (it really was not “repeal”) and the three-step approach was a sham as promoted by Republican congressional leadership and gone along with by Trump. His attacks on The Liberty Caucus were uncalled for.
Progress in the illegal immigration battle is substantive in spite of thwarts by the courts, which will require workarounds, they are not a supreme branch of government. Not funding the border “wall” on this run through of the budget for the excuse given of “avoiding shutting down the government because of Democrat intransigence” does not strike us as politically forced. Indeed the Democrat response SHOULD be a matter made to order to turn people against Democrats and with little or no real impact as a result of a shut down on the people of the United States.
Our military defense and foreign policy situation is on the mend, we hope at an adequate pace.
There have been some optics that are either flubbed in the PR arena or worrisome or seem just plain more cost than benefit. The recent matter of not releasing White House visitor logs would be in that category. We also have concerns about the reliance on son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka. To the extent that Ivanka does some of the otherwise FLOTUS stuff, well we will just have to see how much she pursues campaign representations by her father. Same for Jared.
With some other concerns we can nevertheless agree with the substantial achievements suggested and outlined in these links. We might emphasize some more than others. You never know about Supreme Court justices until they start issuing opinions, but as best we know, that could be a key first 100 day accomplishment .
