U.S. Council of Bishops responds to Trump withdrawal from Paris climate accord

HANDOUT URGES FAITHFUL TO SHARE THE THOUGHTS OF POPE FRANCIS ON ‘CLIMATE CHANGE’ WITH POLITICAL LEADERS

WILL THE “NUNS ON A BUS” BECOME THE “NUNS ON BIKES”*

We don’t know for sure but we suspect that, like ours, most every Catholic parish in America distributed a handout after Mass this weekend.

Apparently the handouts are provided under the auspices of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on “Environment and Environmental Justice” and the “Catholic Climate Covenant”, and, oh yes, the “WeAreSalt And Light.org” (who can forget them?).

By the way, who even knew there was a “Catholic Climate Covenant”?

From its sponsors, one can easily deduce the message.

The handout is a pamphlet** entitled “Praise be to you, my Lord”. It’s message is based upon “Laudato Si: On Care For Our Common Home” and cites various excerpts from Pope Francis’s 2015 encyclical dealing with “climate change”.

Most of the excerpts seem to suggest that only the most cynical ‘worshipper’ could find fault with the thoughts from His Holiness:

– “the ecological crisis” preoccupies the Pontiff and he regards it as a “summons…to renew our relationship with God, one another, and the created world.”

– He calls for “Care for God’s creation”.

Other excerpts get right to Francis’s main concern, and hint at what may be the Pope’s real agenda:

– The “disproportionate” impact of “climate change” on the poor…they who “contributed least” to it and which was caused mainly by the “excessive use” of natural resources by wealthy nations.

– And this one: “We are one human family and have a shared responsibility for others and for creation. Wealthy countries have a responsibility to reduce consumption of non-renewal (sic) resources and should help ($$$$) poor nations develop in sustainable ways.” (our parenthetical notes)

– The leader of 2 billion Catholics worldwide “calls for a change in lifestyle and consumption.”

The pamphlet then goes on to offer “How You Can Respond”…from “reducing consumption” to “WORKING FOR POLITICAL CHANGE” (caps ours) !

Some of the “responses” offered include: recycle, “get a reusable water bottle”, “take shorter showers”, walk, bike, or take public transportation instead of driving (or if you must drive , get a Fiat 500, Il Papa’s favorite vehicle?), compost food waste, buy energy efficient appliances.

The faithful are exhorted to “make changes institutionally” at your parish school, or workplace…including things like using washable dinnerware in cafeterias, and install solar panels. * Some of the suggested responses are sensible, not overly intrusive, and are aimed at securing a cleaner, healthy environment.

But here’s the “money shot”: “Contact your members of Congress to share Pope Francis’ message and urge action to address climate change. Sign up for action alerts with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.”

In the past the Pope has blamed “wealthy countries”, capitalism, and primarily the United States for most of the ills of the underdeveloped world. He’ has excoriated the “pursuit of money”, termed it the “devil’s dung”.

Whether one believes that changes in the earth’s climate is caused by man or not, the effort to “fight” climate change is clearly the most efficient way to “redistribute” the world’s wealth…to take the wealth of “rich” nations, one in particular, and give it to “poorer” countries.

It is a goal of Pope Francis since the early days of his ministry in Argentina and is a basic tenet of “liberation theology”, the Marxist based ideology born in Latin America and embraced by Francis when he was Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

We suspect that President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord has triggered a reaction from the Vatican and many U.S. Dioceses and the distribution of this weekend’s pamphlets is the opening shot in what is likely to be a vigorous campaign waged in Catholic Churches, schools, and wherever a forum is available.

Pope Francis and the U.S. Bishops have shared many of the same goals as the American left and the Democratic Party in recent years…they promote and actively support “open borders”, increased illegal immigration, and “sanctuary cities”; they supported and advocated for Obamacare.

As active in the advancement of the Democratic Party’s leftist goals as they have been, Pope Francis and the Bishops have been generally muted in their opposition to abortion, the radical gay agenda, and Marxist-based government policy initiatives favored by the Obama administration. (Pope Francis has said that Catholics should not “obsess” about matters like like abortion, even while he seems to be “obsessed” about “climate change”.)

These observations are solely ours, based on the words, actions, and expressed aims of Pope Francis and the U.S. Council of Bishops. We would urge Catholics to pay close attention to the actions of their church leaders in the coming months, not just in their carefully scripted words but in the actions and policy changes in our schools, churches and in the parish councils, and charity organizations.

It is our belief that many of the traditional values, beliefs, and tenets of the Church are under fire from a Church hierarchy empowered to move dramatically to the left in recent years, buying in to corrupted science and bad economics that will devastate standards of living for all.***

But, again, that’s our opinion.

*We note that there was a whole lotta idling going on keeping that vile air-conditioning running on the bus while the half dozen nuns made their tour promoting Obama

**Rumors that the original pamphlet included in the suggested institutional changes that  air-conditioning be removed, something Pope Francis seems to find essential to stemming climate change, were scratched on the basis that, well the Pope’s words only go so far, are just that.

***There is a report that various social justice apparat confabs in the area nevertheless were advocating that parishes, in deference to the Pope, stop air-conditioning in the summer and install screens. Any move to implement such a program have been largely quashed by voice vote when it was discovered that such an edict would also affect their offices.   That abundant energy is necessary for widespread human progress and increasing life-span never seriously entered any of the calculus at these confabs.  It was also rumored that purists in the lot were upset with reference to “screens” as both exclusionary of God’s creatures (keeping unwanted guest insects out), and offered too much implied approval to speciests not to mention fascist border wall proponents. The chant “open windows, let all Gaia’s children through” was audible .
